The storyline was interesting, albeit a little farfetched at the end with a 16yo girl taking on an elite and elusive criminal enterprise. It also felt like a Scooby Doo episode where the bad guy, having the characters dead to rights, pauses to dialogue about their plan, conveniently giving the characters a chance to regroup and thwart the plan. But with the help of her cousin, the staff members, and the ghosts, she’s determined to find the truth and bring her parents’ killers to justice. Set in the quaint town of Ravenwood, the story follows the adventures of fourteen-year-old Leigh Howard, a curious and courageous teenager with a knack for uncovering secrets. For a story about grief and internal struggles, it all boils down to an over the top action piece that I struggle to believe any 16 year old could actually go through.Told from the third-person perspective of its titular heroine, Leigh Howard and the Ghosts of Simmons-Pierce Manor is a young adult fiction novel telling the story of Leigh Howard, a recent orphan investigating the mysterious circumstances of her parents death while navigating her new life in the Simmons-Pierce manor and her new family, along with the manor's multifaceted ghost, Ichabod Pierce. Leigh's narration and thought process read like an older man guessing how 16 year old girls think and act, and it doesn't feel convincing or natural. Leigh Howard and the Ghosts of Simmons-Pierce Manor” is a thrilling tale of friendship, courage, and the enduring power of curiosity. For example, one paragraph describes Leigh getting into bed, only to then describe it again shortly thereafter. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. Fascinated by the paranormal, Leigh sees this as an opportunity to investigate the supernatural occurrences rumored to have plagued the house for decades. I feel it’s important to give an honest review and include a few content warnings to help parents decide if their child should read this as the intended age range feels like 13+.As Warner later explained in a TikTok of his own, when Swearenjin approached him, “I was just so eager to talk to anybody. As Leigh delves deeper into the mystery, she uncovers a web of organized crime and betrayal that puts her in danger. Myra (19) describes going skinny dipping in a nearby river at age 10, which really didn't add to the plot and felt weird and unnecessary. I enjoy reading YA but there were so many times where it definitely felt like a middle aged spin on how a teenage girl would/should think and talk. If you’re looking for a unique take on the teen fiction mystery genre, this book is definitely worth checking out.

The story is fast paced and moves from scene to scene, no long narration where nothing is happening.

Both were essential to Leigh’s well-being and growth besides helping her get to the bottom of it all. The writing was done so well and the author truly possesses such great descriptive prowess — as many have mentioned.

By far the most rewarding part has been being a husband to an absolutely amazing woman and father to two incredible children - now adults. To my disappointment, the ghosts total interactions could probably fit three, maybe four pages total! While she does her best to adjust to her new life and deal with her grief — shes unable to let go of not knowing what happened to her parents and embarks on discovering the truth no matter how difficult it is. A 16 year old gets chewed out by someone who’s not a parent and she…admits her wrong and accepts her punishment? Overall, I was excited at face value to read the book and support the author, but I think it's important that I put this out there even among the glowing reviews for this book.
