My only critique is there were places here and there in the story that felt as though Miz Walker was adding unnecessary filler to fulfill the quota of words she needed, despite the fact that they added nothing to the story. And together, I thought they made a nice couple, but overall, I found the book more meh than thrilling.

This book is a standalone, but is a continuation of Heartbreak Hero involving many of the same characters. The solo APs tend to be instructive and concise by nature, while the non-solo APs tend to devolve into a near infinite series of 30 minute improv dialogues between one player and the GM.

If this was the first book I’d read by Laura K I’m not sure I would have been interested in reading another book by her. I loved the characters of Sammy and Sawyer--I felt every angst that they felt--from their abusive life experiences. You can read this as a stand alone but I recommend you read book one in this series, Heartbreak Hero, before reading this book.

I also struggle rating anything with modern military or cops high because the whole time the MMC is telling me this tragic story about him nearly dying overseas I am like why the hell were you there in the first place. Sawyer has been in love with his best friends little sister for over a decade and will never forgive himself for not saving her from the abuse she suffered. I honestly don't get the whole 'forbidden' aspect of dating your brother's friend, especially as these two didn't seem especially close. This episode related to Crush, Chop and Burn but instead of Adam, Bree, and Chase leaving, it was Leo who was going to leave. Heroine has a history of domestic violence which included physical, emotional, and sexual assault, which is discussed and is an important part of the book.You don't see much of that in many of these stories that feature a muscled ex-military bad boy type.

After finding out what happens on missions, she bans Leo from going on any more missions, but he disobeys and goes on a mission with his siblings. It features our heroine, Sammy, who is a tough as nails survivor (along with her little monsters), and our hero, Sawyer, a sexy, charming, and hilarious alpha, and former Army Ranger, who isn't afraid to be vulnerable for our heroine.And as Sammy moves on with Sawyer, the communication relating to overcoming sexual trauma and safe ways to explore power dynamics in a therapeutic way were really refreshing. e.: my new bodyguard) – For having a jaw so chiseled it could probably slice through a huge block of aged cheddar, and yet, not letting me lick it. CONTENT WARNING: If you have “triggers” – be sure to read the content warning at the start of the book (immediately following the dedication). There are some bits where the internal monologue gets confused between the character and the authors voice but not so often that I found it distracting.
