FP: In the book you talk about how, upon landing the role as Draco, you were very blasé about receiving the news. There's one passage on page 283 that I really loved, about comparing the way we talk about mental health to how we talk about sports: if it's so easy to talk about the highs and lows of a game, why isn't it easy to talk about the highs and lows of our emotions? Playing Harry’s nemesis Draco Malfoy in the Potter movies made Felton a star, but in addition to giving us fun glimpses behind the curtain of fame, Felton shows how stardom came dangerously close to ruining his life. i grew up with the harry potter books and films, and beyond the wand is like catching up with a childhood friend.

It's just that I've obviously seen them at the premieres, and they come on TV at Christmas and stuff. This book is a must-read for any Harry Potter fan (even the casual fans) and I highly recommend this memoir to anyone who’s interested in learning more about Tom Felton’s life. Felton shares so many terrific stories – from his childhood, from his years playing Draco Malfoy on the Harry Potter set, and later, from his battle with depression and substance abuse – and they are all told with refreshing frankness and a dry, acerbic wit.

Felton also recounts Hagrid actor Robbie Coltrane’s playful streak, and marvels at Jason Isaacs for being able to flip a switch from the heinous Lucius Malfoy to his gentler real-life persona. And my opinion on Tom Felton went from “oh, he’s so chill and artistic, very down to earth and kind dude, wish to see him in more movies” to “he’s that narcissistic surface level boring dude, still milking his one childhood role deep in his thirties ew”. Tom narrates it himself and it has to be one of the most endearing, sweet audiobook experiences I’ve ever listened to! growing up i was the kid who had seen every single extra scene, behind the scenes video, etc, for harry potter, but there were actually things that surprised me in tom's memoir!Although he has little to say about the Harry Potter filmmakers (aside from original director Chris Columbus) and dances around touchier matters (such as co-star Jamie Waylett’s arrest and franchise exit), Felton does drop endearing tidbits about the movies’ parade of British acting royalty. Being a fan of Harry Potter, why wouldn’t I read this biography of one of the key characters in the book? Our situations aren’t exactly the same, but knowing that someone I look up to has struggled with mental illness helps me feel less alone in my struggles. The insights into Tom's world when filming the Harry Potter movies and some of his other movies was really cool. Since my daughter and I read the Harry Potter books together a few years ago I thought it'd be nice to read this one together.

Suzanne O’Neill, VP, Executive Editor of Grand Central Publishing, acquired North American rights to the book from Sarah Scarlett at Penguin Random House UK. As Slytherin bully Draco Malfoy, Felton delivered a requisite amount of sneering during the eight-movie series’ early installments, then cast a more nuanced spell in the last few films. Reading this book was like watching one of his panels at a comic con and it made the experience really enjoyable.Honestly, I think chapter 26 and 27 had the fewest amount of Harry Potter references in them, and good - which, by the way?

Yes my daughter is older and it's not anything she hasn't heard before, but it might not be suitable for the younger ones. Here is a quick description and cover image of book Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard written by Tom Felton which was published in 2022-10-18. Trying to put that into a timeline took a little bit of time, but with a little bit of help from my friends and family, it was achievable. It was a beautiful passage, and I'm almost angry that Beyond the Wand was what it was, when I know for a clear fact that Felton is capable of writing with so much more depth. The synopsis says, “Speaking with great candor and his signature humor, Tom shares his experience growing up as part of the wizarding world while also trying to navigate the [M]uggle world.
