Produced by the legendary Bob Rock, Sonic Temple had four chart-topping singles; “Fire Woman”, “Edie (Ciao Baby)”, “Sun King” and “Sweet Soul Sister”. I said Love sounded compressed, but I'm realizing now that that may have been a result of every song off the album sitting in the same range.

with all my lyrics I like to leave them open for people's interpretations and hope that people find themselves within my songs”, and on this particular album, that statement couldn't be any more true. Continuing in the hard rock direction introduced on their previous album, Sonic Temple features some of the band’s most popular songs. That said, 'Sonic Temple' does not let up at any other point on the album, and thankfully, it even justifies it's presence in the charts. Furthermore, the cymbals are actually put to good use on this album, rather than just being lightly tapped on the chorus and neglected in favour of arena rock drum banging in the verses.Sonic Temple was the last album recorded with longtime bassist Jamie Stewart, who left in 1990, and the first to feature session drummer Mickey Curry. Listen to the excitement of 'Fire Woman', the powerful AOR overtones of 'Sweet Soul Sister' and the brilliantly placed closer in 'Wake Up Time for Freedom', and you'll see just how well refined the band are as a unit. Vote up content that is on-topic, within the rules/guidelines, and will likely stay relevant long-term. The album catapulted The Cult into superstar status and remains their most commercially successful release.

It’s numbered and limited to 3500 pieces worldwide and contains 40 tracks, four of which are previously unreleased. Billy Duffy still uses his guitar to the full effect, purposefully weaving his well executed solos in and out of every song, and also having the talent to make those solos fit. LP3 contains Live At Wembley recorded by the BBC, and the included cassette contains limited-release demos. The latter of these aforementioned songs even features every member of the band solemnly singing the title over and over again, until it hypnotizes the listener so that they don't even know how far into they song they are. Bob Rock, the album's producer, washes blunt, powerful sound over the broadness of most of the band's strokes.Electric' opted for a bigger, 'ballsier' and perhaps better sound than found within the sometimes melodic passages of 'Love'. Thirdly, the amount of dust and dirt on the surface is more than I have ever seen on any new pressing, and consequently, results in lots of surface noise. The album cover features guitarist Billy Duffy with his Gibson Les Paul, partially obscuring a picture of vocalist Ian Astbury. The Cult - Sonic Temple Lyrics and Tracklist | Genius

It does not compare favourably with 'Love' nor 'Electric' but "American Horse" and "Sweet Soul Sister" in particular are great heavy rock tracks. If you want me to go through perhaps the only minor flaw in the album itself, then I suppose I have no choice. But what you're starting to notice is that the issue is moving more and more into the focus of the heavy listenership and is slowly getting the attention and appreciation it deserves. It was a complete immersion for me into art, film, music, poetry and literature, weaving those influences into what was to become Sonic Temple.Later on, they tracked a new demo version of the record (15 songs) with Chris Taylor (drummer for the Bob Rock band). Includes memorabilia and ephemera (replica of original laminate, backstage pass, original press releases, label copy and four previously unreleased tracks. At times, the guitars cut out on Automatic Blues and Soldier Blue (maybe it's just one of them, but they put two songs with "Blue" in the title back to back so I should be expected to conflate the two), which gives the listener just a bit needed of breathing room. The back cover features bassist Jamie Stewart, and an additional illustration on the insert, from left to right, features Astbury, Duffy, and Stewart. Even "Fire Woman\," which is probably the best track here, doesn't really need to be 5 minutes long.

Sonic Temple (30th Anniversary Edition) [2019 Remaster]

This is probably The Cult's greatest, tied with Electric and Love, but I consider it more representative mostly because it fuses their two sounds the best. The album features some of the band's most popular songs, including " Fire Woman" and "Edie (Ciao Baby)". Vocalist Ian Astbury, guitarist Billy Duffy and bassist Jamie Stewart weren’t about to chase their muse down another exotic rabbit hole. Sun King as mentioned above is some of the best fusion songs, Edie is their signature ballad and there is place for diversity with the rocking New York City, the anthemic Wake Up Time for Freedom, the groove of Sweet Soul Sister, or the slow post-punk-ish construction of American Horse.Just listen to fabulous opener 'Sun King', which in its somewhat laid back and 'cool' presence, introduces the album (and predictably enough, Duffy’s guitar work) in an outstandingly successful way.
