I have aways wondered how to make pilau rice and this recipe (even though I tweaked it because of what was available in the cupboard) worked for me and was an all round success with my extended family. Rice has such a subtle flavor that it goes well with almost any combination – there are numerous ways to enhance its taste.

Leave to melt for a few seconds, then quickly fluff up the rice using a fork, taking care not to break up the grains. Pilau rice is traditionally a golden yellow, this is because turmeric is used to season the rice, dying it yellow upon cooking and giving it a slight tang.
