The NRSV is a very good translation, BUT, it's non-gender renderings of 'Son of Man' in Daniel as 'as a human being' are unfortunate. Now in the West today it is almost universally assumed that the text of the Hebrew Bible as it is today is the canonical text of the Old Testament at the time of Our Lord.The text of the New Testament and Psalms translation is currently the New King James Version accompanied by Orthodox viewpoint commentary. Of the 80% where some disagreement occurs, fewer than 5% agree with the Hebrew against the Septuagint’. Typology is an approach to the interpretation of the Scriptures found in the New Testament itself – the Gospels, Acts and Epistles – and in the writings of the Church Fathers, which sees certain people and events in the Old Testament (types) as foreshadowing things fulfilled in the New (antitypes). In a review of some of this scholarship, Hershal Shanks [2] notes that ”…many Hebrew texts [are available] that were the base text for Septuagintal translations…”.
