Toby’s life has always been perfect; however, it did not take long before things began to change when a blood test unraveled everything. INSOMNIA takes readers down the rabbit hole as Emma tries to make sense of a world she once knew so well—a world which, at least to Emma’s sleep-deprived mind, now seems fraught with danger at every turn. It's never a good sign when you are overly anxious to a book to be over and that is exactly how I felt about Insomnia. After all, the downright perfection (I did warn you) held within this book’s pages is best faced blind.

Adele begins to encourage Louise to improve herself; that is quit the wine drinking, join a gym and also quit smoking. Or could someone be setting Emma up, gaslighting her into believing that her worst nightmare is coming true? Through blackouts and explosive conflicts, we see the fragility of trust under stress, in others as well as in ourselves. This is the 30th book, but considering Alex has survived "Kill Alex Cross" before, chances are he survives this one. As a fellow insomniac, I could definitely relate to the horrible feeling of being unable to sleep and going slightly mad about it. I had at the back of my mind that if I survive past my 50’s it won’t happen to me and hopefully I’ll get a few more years left. Long story short: INSOMNIA was a knockout of a psychological thriller for me, and if you love your thrillers dark, twisty, and viscerally suspenseful, add this one to your to-read list immediately. However, I stuck it through but if I heard one more “Oh look, look a candle, a book and a bell, there to remind me…” I think I would have gone a little crazy myself.

Insomnia: A Novel - Kindle edition by Pinborough, Sarah

Because, as I raced through the last one hundred or so pages, I found myself utterly gobsmacked when the ultimate revelation was unveiled. She is slowly losing time and is compelled to do the same things her mother did right before she went mad. For starters, Emma’s own mother suffered a psychotic breakdown when she turned 40 and tried to smother Emma’s older sister, Phoebe, with a pillow as she slept. The author combines all the elements of a typical love triangle and the story of the marriage that no one seems to understand with some weird suspenseful plot twisting. I can see why many will adore this read and many will think it's ultimately just a weak overall idea, but I'd like to think that we can all agree that the narrative voice of someone feeling on the brink and the suspense around her reality and the people she interacts with was pretty good? Playful and irreverent, spine-tingling and spooky, The September House puts a fresh spin on the classic haunted house story, delivering an immersive tale about the secrets lurking within one building’s walls, and within the lives of its inhabitants.

She’s successful lawyer, working 12 hours a day and then comes back home to finish the chores her stay at home- lazy- most dislikable husband left behind, reading bed stories to her little boy. In this twisty, mind-bending thriller from the bestselling author of Behind Her Eyes, Emma Averell worries that her crippling insomnia is a sign that she’s slowly going insane—like the mother she’s worked so hard to leave in her past. As Emma’s fortieth birthday approaches, she is forced to confront the horrible possibility that she might meet the same fate as did her mother, and might become a danger to the people she loves most of all in the process. That traditional narrative trajectory is conducive to calm: Even if we doze off halfway through a suspense tale, we can rest assured that all will eventually be right with the world by the time we finish the novel.I knew that there was something more at work here than just the paranoia that accompanies insomnia, but I was conflicted in what exactly I thought could really be happening and I feel like this could have been less drawn out. As I got to the final quarter section of the novel, I got a sense that Pinborough had started off with one viable plot line in mind, then decided to trash her ending and inject this totally off the wall summation into the mix?

but I did watch its recent TV adaptation, and wanted to briefly address the question of the supernatural in INSOMNIA. The slowness 🐢 of the story, combined with the constant whining of the main character really was a deterrent to the story. Emma is worrying about this monumental birthday as it reflects back to a darker time in her childhood when her mother began to struggle with mental illness. BLOOD SISTERS will be published in September, but thanks to Vanessa and her publisher, we’re able to get an exclusive early glimpse into the book right here in today’s blog post!Unsettling and utterly addicting, Insomnia is a heart-pounding thriller that will have you up all night.
