The reality was only six lads turned up to the 'nationwide audition' at La Cage nightclub in Manchester. I had this image (as you do when you don't know someone) that GB was a bit of a loner, pushover and all-round nice guy. A few years ago I was taken aback by how much I loved narrating the audiobook of my autobiography, and I wanted to explore how I could use this storytelling on the stage. The driving force behind the original band in terms of musical direction and creativity, but not really someone who enjoys the fame - and indeed this really comes across here. This book has given me some insight in to famous peoples lives and I won’t look at a pop star again and take them at face value.

One of the most interesting nights of my life begins in a hotel in Kensington in 2005, where Mark, Howard and I are three nobodies. Barlow’s feud with Robbie Williams turns into a running joke but you get the feeling there’s something much feistier and uglier lurking beneath Barlow’s sneaky swipes at the one band member who chose to step away. Ad Feature From luxury skincare to must-have make-up collections - get Christmas all wrapped up with dream gifts. The earlier books really concentrate on this, allowing you a brief glimpse into the world of a young lad who knows just how hard he has to work to get anywhere. Then the universe intervened and a massive and debilitating dose of flu consigned me to bed for a few days.

The loss of their daughter Poppy was so upsetting and heartbreaking as I can relate to how that feels having gone through that myself.

What I learned from this book is that he's actually quite an arrogant arse and I found myself not liking him anywhere near as much as I could. What made it really delicious was where we all went afterwards in our noughties wilderness, my cardigan years. There are a few bits-and-pieces that were interesting, however, for the most part this is nothing more than a food journal, and with the amount of health kicks I've tried over the years, I could have written my own version of one of those. Gary Barlow took his first steps towards his career aspirations when he entered his song in a BBC Christmas song competition, which he was then invited to record at London’s West Heath Studios. I wasn’t a super fan, so there’s a lot I don’t know and time moved my music taste along so that Take That were no longer in my orbit.
