The Theatrical Cut gets straight to the point with hardly any fat leftover, and is by far the shortest version of all. Thanks to the new HDR grades, color and contrast are improved, giving hues a richer appearance with more natural flesh tones and deep blacks. Also, the edge enhancement and heavy DNR found on the original Universal Blu-ray release is not present, neither are any other digital alterations. To be 100% clear, the Special Longer Version is ONLY going to be available in The Complete Adventure package, and producer David C. Matt Paprocki has critiqued home media and video games for 20 years across outlets like Washington Post, Variety, Rolling Stone, Forbes, IGN, Playboy, Polygon, Ars, and others. This wasn’t supposed to be revealed quite this way but yes, we’re working on it but we have no additional details as to when we’ll officially announce, when it will release or specifics on the release. The director’s cut doesn’t seem to have had any work to it, although the International cut features a 4K scan from the interpositive. It was such an aftermarket success that Universal allowed Anchor Bay Entertainment to release a Director’s Cut of it on DVD. Disc three is a Blu-ray with the director’s cut, while disc four is a Blu-ray of the international cut; both platters serve up extras too.

It was such an aftermarket success that Universal allowed Anchor Bay Entertainment to release a director’s cut of it on DVD. Not only is it informative (and I should note that I was among the people interviewed therein), it includes some great news about forthcoming titles. Coming from brand-new restoration and remaster of the original 35mm camera negatives, the native 4K transfer, approved by Raimi and cinematographer Bill Pope, showcases incredibly sharp details for a majority of the runtime with a few soft, blurry moments sprinkled throughout. However he does show up in some commentary tracks, including optional commentary with Campbell on a 3-minute alternate opening and 11 minutes of deleted scenes.Disc Four contains the aforementioned TV Cut; the International theatrical trailer; a set of still galleries with behind-the-scenes photos from production designer Anthony Tremblay, visual effects supervisor William Mesa, special make-up effects artist Tony Gardner, and KNB EFX, Inc. Sam Raimi's intentionally campy Army of Darkness remains a cult classic thanks to Bruce Campbell's perfectly-timed performance and the wacky visual effects referencing Ray Harryhausen. Stephen has turned in his in-depth thoughts on George Stevens’ 1956 Hollywood classic Giant, starring James Dean, Rock Hudson, and Elizabeth Taylor, as recently released on 4K Ultra HD by Warner Bros.

There’s also a new featurette on the creation of the Deadites, as the undead are known in this film. The reproduction, modification, distribution, or republication of the content without permission is strictly prohibited.Among many other subjects, Campbell also addresses the lack of the words “evil” and “dead” in the film’s title, noting that the studio insisted on releasing it with a non- Evil Dead name, even though it’s the third in a trilogy. It features many of the same characteristics, including the color timing, but grain is much more refined. It may have been a more befitting end for a “loud-mouth braggart” like Ash, but it clashes with the overall tone.

The Collector’s Edition of Army of Darkness on 4K Ultra HD sits in a black amaray case alongside three 1080p Blu-rays devoted to the various versions of the film plus extras. For instance, the close-up shot of an arrow during the beginning of the film is still equipped with wires, which are more visible now.Army of Darkness is the time-traveling third entry in the Evil Dead horror franchise created by Sam Raimi. As far as the content of the different versions, the theatrical is the most straight-to-the-point version with hardly any of the fat leftover. It isn’t completely perfect as grain levels from scene to scene are probably more uneven than any other version in this set, but the rest appears to be the same as the theatrical version in all other respects. The original ending, which involves Ash accidentally sleeping too long and waking up in a dead world, just doesn’t seem to jibe with the campy thrill ride that came before it. One thing’s for sure though: if that decision hadn’t been made, we might not have gotten the Ash vs Evil Dead TV series.
