Description

A closer inspection of the device reveals that our 2TB-capacity NV2 uses a Silicon Motion SM2267XT controller, which is a relatively recent, value-oriented model launched in 2020 and designed for DRAM-less operation (by comparison, the non-XT SN2267 is for use with LPDDR4). This controller offers four NAND channels and is capable of 500K 4K random IOPS read/write throughput according to Silicon Motion. All of the drive’s four 512MB NAND memory modules are mounted on the same side. Estimated delivery times are provided to us by the respective delivery companies. We pass this information onto you, the customer.

Custom made and designed products such as flash memory products with custom logo’s on them. E,g USB flash drives and memory cards with your own logo Even though our test results bettered the official maximum Sequential figures the drive sits in last place in our results chart. Throughput is measured in Megabytes per second (MB/s) at read and write. This is done via AS SSD and its sequential benchmark. We used CrystalDiskMark 8‘s custom settings to test the 4K random read performance of the drive through a range of queue depths. The setup for the tests is listed below. The entry-level Gen 4 SSD market segment is, by its nature, rapidly becoming a highly competitive one. Aiming for a slice of the action is Kingston with its NV2 drive, a successor to the PCIe Gen 3×4 NV1 drive. As you can see from the benchmark result screens we were able to confirm Kingston's official figures for the 1TB NV2 of up to 3,500MB/s for reads and up to 2,100MB/s for writes with test results of 3,672MB/s for reads and 2,621MB/s for writes. File copy performance is measured in Seconds (s). This is done via TeraCopy and 16 GB worth of files. Adobe Illustrator – starting the application until usable Adobe Premiere Pro – starting the application until usable. Throughput is measured in Megabytes per second (MB/s) at read and write. This is done via Crystal Disk Mark and its sequential benchmark. Operations per Second is measured in Input/Output Operations per Second (IOPS) at read and write. This is done via AS SSD and its 4K benchmark. PCMark 10 includes a subset of tests to determine an “app start-up score” to be weighed into the total. We make use of the “cold start” times that measures loading times from disk. In these apps, the NV2 continues to impress with startup times that surpass the Gen3 SSDs in every test.We used CrystalDiskMark 8‘s custom settings to test the Sequential read and write performance of the drive through a range of queue depths. The setup for the tests is listed below. Although it is quite far from utilizing the full bandwidth of the PCIe Gen4 interface, that’s not the point of the DRAM-less and value-oriented Kingston NV2. What it does manage to do is perform largely on par with more expensive and formerly high-end SSDs from the previous generation, using the newer interface and comparatively low-end configuration.

In comparison to the Sequential read QD results when it comes to Sequential writes, the drive stays firmly on the bottom of the performance graph through all the tested queue depths. The NV2 1 TB has an expected lifespan of 160 TBW (terabytes written) and 1,500,000 hours MTBF (mean time between failures). Access time is measured in Milliseconds (ms). This is done via AS SSD and its Access Time benchmark. It also offers a great deal of value at a very reasonable price point. At the time of writing, you can find the 2TB NV2 for around the same price as a SATA SSD with the same capacity, or a high-end 1TB drive. Compared to the 2.5″ SATA alternatives, the choice is easy as the Kingston NV2 will run circles around any such drive. With a read score of 1106 in ASSSD, the 1TB NV2 sits firmly in last place in our results chart. Its write score is significantly faster at 2042.
