Description

Allocate an appropriate length of time dependent on each section’s volume of questions. This approach should be deployed for both revision and in the exam itself. Below is a full breakdown of the number of questions each ‘part’ of the book represents. Its worth noting that this information is also available in the City & Guilds handbook. Note the volume of questions referring to Parts 4 & 5 of the book: these account for a massive 48% of all responses required. This is unsurprising given the large amount of content in these sections, and individuals should allocate appropriate time to these areas when revising. Section breakdown

A new Regulation 514.16.1 has been introduced requiring a label to indicate the presence of SPDs. However, there is an exception for domestic (household) premises or similar. Chapter 53 - Protection, isolation, switching, control and monitoring

Building Regulations

Regulation 422.1 (precautions where particular risks of fire exist) now introduces requirements for the fire safety design of the building(s) to be documented. Also, requirements have been added where cables should have an improved fire performance. Additional, supplementary information relating to other parts of the book – eg Appendix 6 has copies of the certificates and reports used with Inspection and Testing – Part 6 and Appendix 3 has the maximum disconnection times for RCDs and current/time graphs for protective devices which ties into Part 4 etc.

The table below outlines what is covered in the BS 7671 book outlining the IET Requirements for Electrical Installations. It also highlights the number of questions in the exam will target the different sections covered in the book. The ‘Test Value (%)’ column serves to show how much of your time should be spent revising each book section. This is based on the total number of questions covered by each book section out of the 60 that will be asked. Book Part Savoy Place is highly regarded by returning clients like IBM, Royal Televsion Society and Microsoft with an affiliation to STEM disciplines. Its flagship meeting spaces include a dominating lecture theatre and spacious Riverside Room with vast natural light, London views and optional use of the roof terrace for up to 200 guests. For more intimate events, Savoy Place boasts a characterful Library and a series of 11 smaller meeting rooms. Chapter 32: Classification of external influences. Although an empty chapter that just refers to Appendix 5, its aim is for the designer to consider any environmental conditions that may impact the installation.Members of the committee responsible for the technical content of BS 7671, JPEL/64, are not permitted to release any further information before the publication date. On September 26 th, 1881 the world’s first fully electric-powered public street lighting was turned on in a town called Godalming in Surrey. These lights were provided by the German firm Siemens and used to replace the gas lighting system. However, all was not completely well with the new system. Indeed, as soon as power was switched on there were reports of problems with the wiring. This was particularly apparent on the side streets where the lights barely lit up the ground below them. More concerning, were reports of people coming to harm on exposed wires. By 1884 the town abandoned the project.

Regulation 514.9.2 has been introduced to advise that all diagrams, charts, and information or instruction notices comply with the applicable standards specified. Regulation 411.3.1.2 has been redrafted. The regulation now requires that in each consumer’s installation within a building extraneous-conductive parts that are liable to introduce a dangerous potential difference be connected to the main earthing terminal.Part 4: Protection for safety is where we start getting busy. Five chapters all about ensuring the safety of the users and occupants as well as the building itself. The information covered in this section is general and related to fundamental principles you will need to adopt prior to beginning design work. Chapter 56: Safety services concerns the selection and installation of supplies for safety services within an electrical installation. Remember it’s supplies to, and not the individual safety service e.g. the fire alarm installation itself. There have been some structure changes, including the introduction of a new chapter (chapter 46) and a rework of chapter 53.

Chapter 64 contains information on ‘Initial Verification’ and Chapter 65 details ‘Periodical Inspection & Testing’ guidance. Although these areas have substantial cross-over, understanding which subject alludes to which chapter is critical in composing a positive answer. The Amendment continues the thread of embracing new technologies and Prosumer’s Low Voltage Electrical Installations is an exciting step into the future of renewable sources of energy and their integration into our lives. The BS7671:2018 examination is the same regardless of whether you’re entirely new to the field, or if you’ve completed examinations on historic wiring regulation editions. But if you’re fully up to speed on the last Regs book, you may feel confident enough to focus your revision on the changes that have occurred this time around. This section includes changes to automatic disconnection of supply and additional protection. Section 717 - Mobile or transportable units Table 51 has been modified slightly to take into account changes of colour identification for DC and abbreviations have been added.
