One welcome design touch is the standard tripod mount on the bottom. We made good use of this, bolting it to our full-size photography tripod to swiftly whip up the perfect adjustable projector stand. The value of the storage space is the total storage space. The system occupies space in actual use. However, this used space is smaller than the marked size, and individual user experiences may vary based on usage. Again, it shows itself most on darker shades of a color that fill a large area. That’s bad news for anime fans, but it won’t always rear its head in live-action content where textures and fine details preclude the flat colors that run into the dithering problem.

The XGIMI Elfin also offers one HDMI port for external connections, making screen mirroring much easier for daily usage. While 800 lumens isn’t the brightest, it’s pretty good for a portable projector – and much brighter than the Anker Nebula Capsule. With the curtains open you can get a large, TV-sized picture; draw them, or watch at night, and you can easily get a much bigger picture. The Elfin can project up to a 200-inch picture. Inside, I easily achieved a 100-inch-plus picture. Where apps are available, the Eflin has a fast enough processor to run them smoothly, and I didn’t notice any lag in the interface. Auto keystone correction will always get you a square picture, although it’s best to try to get the Elfin as square on as possible first. New to this projector is Intelligent Obstacle Avoidance – if the projector spots a light switch or other protrusion, it will adjust the screen size to avoid it. Testing on my wall, the Elfin automatically avoided the consumer unit on the wall.

XGIMI glasses combine the STN glass and TN liquid crystal, and the lens size is twice that of ordinary 3D glasses, which provides a bigger vision Like most smart portable projectors, the Elfin utilizes Android TV 10.0, which means two things: it’s easier and faster to set up if you’ve already got an account, and it’s extremely user-friendly and customizable. There are no buttons on the top of the projector; all control is via the handy Bluetooth remote. This has a simple layout and the unit feels comfortable in the hand. You’ll need to supply and insert two AAA batteries to get it to work, since these aren’t included in the box.

Automatic object avoidance works well too, changing the size and position of the image to avoid light switches and other objects on your wall. The remote works via Bluetooth and must be paired at first start up, but note that you do need 2 x AAA batteries which are not included. Power off: Long press the power button for 3 seconds; the green LED light will flash 3 times, and the glasses will power off. The XGMI Elfin features Chromecast built-in, allowing you to cast your favorite entertainment apps, movies, music, games, and videos from your Android or iOS devices. (Chromecast-supported apps). In action, the visuals are sharp enough, though. The Elfin also provides a picture with color that pops. This may be because it is a bit oversaturated, particularly when yellows are prominent in a scene, but the picture never appeared garish.This value is the theoretical lifespan of the light source. The actual lifespan may vary according to different environments, modes, and user experiences. The auto screen adjustment process runs whenever you switch on the Elfin, and is a joy to behold if you have ever had to manually focus and keystone projectors yourself. Although best suited for night-time viewing where you’ll have no problems getting a 100-inch picture, the Elfin offers powerful sound and accurate colors, combined with some clever auto-setup options that makes it a treat to use anywhere in the home.
