Description

A unique sensation on the palate with sweet spice, dry prune, a hint of grape syrup, and subtle oak. Best Served Hi and WELCOME to Cook Like a Greek! We’re Lizz and Stephanie, a mother-daughter team living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Living under the same roof again, after many years apart, we noticed how much we enjoyed being in the kitchen and cooking together. It has brought us even closer, and we saw it as an opportunity to create and share traditional Greek family recipes with our family and friends.

Refrigerate the drink for a minimum of 2 hours and serve. If you want an even colder drink, refrigerate the sangria overnight. This will also allow the fruit to soak up more alcohol. You can serve the sangria in a glass as is, or you can serve it over ice depending on your preference. year double pots stilled brandies, aromatic Muscat wine, rose petals, and fragrant herbs. Taste notesThis Amber spirit is more balanced and refined than the 5 Stars and offers fruity peach and prune flavours. The woody taste of the oak barrel lingers on the palate, complementing the sipping experience. Ingredients The rose petals are gathered from bushes grown at an altitude of around 2,500 feet. They are macerated in a solution of water and alcohol for up to one year. All the ingredients in the herbal elixir are macerated separately and then combined. The mixture is unaged. A small quantity of the herbal elixir is blended with the aged mix of spirit and wine. The final blend is then aged for at least two years, although Metaxa has blends that have been aged for as long as 30-40 years. The maturation occurs in large, 3,500-liter butts of neutral wood. Some of the butts used by Metaxa are more than a century old. The spirit is casked at an ABV of 40% and 46%. The original first two butts are still in use at the distillery, although they have been repaired many times. The Metaxa Brandy Collection Star rating represents the minimum number of years the spirit has aged in the barrel. This heavenly spirit that is not quite a brandy or a cognac yet takes you on a journey to Greece that you will want to re-take time and time again. What Is Metaxa?

Out of curiosity I tried it simply with a splash of soda, as I had a bottle of soda open in the fridge, and it worked really well. The Metaxa Master did say this was a versatile spirit, and he’s absolutely right. (Well, of course he is, that’s why he’s only the 5th Metaxa Master since the company was founded in 1888!)

ON THE LABEL

Metaxa begins life as a brandy, or rather a number of brandies. The manufacturers take brandies that have been brewed from different batches of dry white wine by an assortment of distilleries across Greece. The resulting brandy blend is then aged in oak casks before being added to a specific type of muscat wine produced on the islands of Samos and Lemnos. This helps to impart a richness to the brandy mixture, adding extra depth and bringing some of that unique Metaxa flavor. Although Metaxa was originally compared to a Cognac and subsequently to a brandy, it is actually not classified as either of these spirits. Brandy, by definition, does not include wine. Metaxa has the presence of very fine muscat wines from Samos, an island in the north east Aegean, and Mediterranean botanicals. As such, Metaxa is a spirit in a category of its own. Metaxa 5 Star: Metaxa 5 Star is the flagship product of the Metaxa brand. It is a smooth, mellow spirit made from a blend of fine wine distillates, brandy, and muscat wines. Metaxa 5 Star is aged in oak casks for at least five years, and it has a mellow flavor that can be enjoyed on its own or mixed with other drinks. This article will explore some of the different ways to drink Metaxa. We’ll also provide tips on getting the most out of your drinking experience. The Different Types of Metaxa

In my opinion, this aged spirit is one to be sipped. You can enjoy a deeper Metaxa experience of dry fruits, wood, dark chocolate, and rich coffee. It would also make a great gift. Ingredients On the palate, it’s very smooth and honey sweet, with notes of dark dried fruit, chocolate, and dried and candied orange zest. It’s more peppery and exhibits a substantial palate weight and a viscous, oily character.

GREEK METAXA WINE

Mix 1⁄ 2 c (120 ml) of Metaxa and 3.2 c (760 ml) of red wine in a pitcher. The Metaxa and red wine blend will serve as the base of your Sangria. Pour both of them into a large pitcher and use a spoon with a long handle to mix it together until both liquids are well incorporated. As an introduction to the best Metaxa brandy, Metaxa 5 Stars sets the bar high with its light floral and fruity notes. Ideal for sipping but leans more towards mixing.
