After my eraser came out of the washing machine I allowed it to dry. I was going to wet it again anyway but meh I let it dry first for some odd reason. Our servers are getting hit pretty hard right now. To continue shopping, enter the characters as they are shown I got one as a freebie at a craft fair a few years ago but they were pushing it as the only thing you need to clean your face with. I was young and dumb and got a ton of acne in the first week! Threw it away and assumed I just got a defective one I was allergic to.

I just knew you reviewed these! I guess my question to you is this… if theoretically you could remove all of the makeup and products from your skin using only water, is that healthy if not using too much force in the skin regularly. I do believe physical exfoliation is important occasionally but am I missing out on putting another product in my skin? ReplyI got a couple Wonder Cloths at Bed Bath and Beyond over the past few years. So I found when I tried the Sephora brand that was probably more like Makeup Eraser, that it did not have the same ‘slip’ and I didn’t like it as much as I assumed I would. Reply Bacterial buildup – The cloths recommend that you wring them out and dry them after each use, with a wash once a week, but without a cleanser or soap it’s possible that you’ll get bacteria growing on the cloth. You could buy enough so you can wash each one after one use, but realistically not many people are going to do that. Theoretically, the make-up remover cloths made from synthetic fibres will be more resistant to bacterial growth than the ones that use cotton, since you can squeeze them dry more easily. I’ve been really interested in these but haven’t taken the plunge. I use a daily leave on chemical exfoliation lotion so I don’t feel like I have to actually physically exfoliate anymore. Now I will put them out of my mind, no way do I want to rub my face too hard. Especially right before I apply retinol or salicylic acid, OUCH! Make-up remover cloths are usually a soft fleecy flannel with dense, fluffy fibres about half a centimetre long. To use a make-up remover cloth, you simply wet it with warm water and rub on your face in small circular motions – and your make-up comes off, without using any “chemicals” (well, except for dihydrogen monoxide (H 2O) and the substances in the cloth, the glucose you use to power your hands etc. etc.). Rubbing and tugging – If your make-up is particularly stubborn, it might not come off without rubbing and tugging. I found this to be a particularly big problem with eye make-up.

Hola, s! I only used about an eighth of it – for a full face, I need about a hand area’s worth. With less long-wearing make-up, you could probably get most of the make-up out with some soap and water, then do a deep machine clean once a week or so. It would work, but that’s mostly theoretical since there are lots of oil-soluble substances on your skin that can’t be removed with just water, at least not without friction. Reply Adding warm water to the removal process helps loosen make-up as well. Make-up remover cloths in action Wong M. How Make-Up Remover Cloths Work and Review. Lab Muffin Beauty Science. April 26, 2016. Accessed October 31, 2023. I was just talking about this Ann! I’m going to try this method, it sounds like a better way to use the cloths as the oil will make them a bit more slippery so less pressure/scrubbing!

I have one, and I love it. I run it under really hot water and use the side with shorter pile to wipe my makeup off. I don’t find that I have to scrub any harder than I would with a regular wash cloth. I don’t use it all the time, and don’t wear makeup on a daily basis but I like the idea of a soap/chemical free option of taking off my face. The brand definitely matters. I use the Makeup Eraser, I’m on my second one after 2 years. It’s perfect for sensitive, acne-prone skin and it definitely does get rid of EVERY shred of makeup. Reply Friction. To lift the make-up from the skin, the fibres need to grip onto the make-up and pull it off. The greater the surface area, the more grip and friction each wipe will have without you having to push down so hard – instead of 5 large fibres going over a particular area, you get 50 fibres. It’s like with shoes – a shoe with a perfectly flat sole is going to have worse grip than a shoe with a ribbed sole, which has a better surface area. This means the cloth will remove more make-up with less irritation. Hi! I'm Michelle, chemistry PhD, science educator and cosmetic chemist, and I'm here to help you figure out which beauty products are and aren't worth buying, using science.Honestly, I don’t use washclothes at all I’m sorry! I’d go with a cleansing balm or cleansing oil! It’s better for your skin!

Wonder Cloth – The other big brand – it’s 40% cotton and 60% synthetic rayon. You can get it at Bed Bath and Beyond in the US as well. Thanks for the great review, I’ve been wondering about this. I do tend to kind of scrub my face with a washcloth probably harder than I should, but I agree that rough rubbing around the eyes is a no no! Thank you soooo much for sharing your vast knowledge with the world! Please keep up your work because you are helping the world in so many ways! You’re very important!According to 86% of our testers, this cloth effectively removed all traces of makeup with just water. They appreciated that its soft material was kind on the skin and that it's large, so they could cover different areas with a fresh bit of material each time. 93% found it easy to wash, saying that it retained its colour and shape and that there was minimal staining. Although some testers found it hard to remove waterproof mascara, 86% would happily swap this cloth for disposable pads. It also took off most makeup in our lab test, scoring six out of 10.
