Description

Ukiyo Rice Vodka was launched in December last year, and is crafted on the tropical island of Okinawa. It was produced in a distillery that makes the local rice spirit awamori, a liquid indigenous to Okinawa. You’ll find Hepple gracing the leatherbound menus of Britain’s finest drinking dens – and with good reason, too. Distilled in the Northumberland wilds, a heady blend of botanicals undergoes a three-stage extraction, resulting in a vibrant gin that jumps out the glass from the get-go. If you like your spirit to lean heavily on the citrus and herbs (green juniper, pine, Douglas fir, savoury lovage, sandalwood), then you need to add a bottle to your line-up. Meanwhile, Ukiyo Japanese Rice Vodka is crafted on the island of Okinawa, in a distillery known for making the local rice spirit, Awamori. Flavour-wise, there’s fresh grapefruit, orange peel and bitter lemon on the nose, so our advice is to keep it simple, with a heady 50ml measure, Indian tonic and citrus peel garnish.

Our trusted panel of experts and consumer boozehounds sipped their way through over 100 different gins from leading distilleries and producers across the globe. Each was fully appraised for its complexity, length and finish, with in-depth discussions held on how best to serve it. Japanese vodka and gin producer Ukiyo has secured a listing with drinks retailer Dan Murphy’s, with its Ukiyo’s Blossom Gin, Yuzu Gin, and Rice Vodka to be distributed across Australia.Bittersweet, zesty and fantastic when paired with campari and vermouth, Silent Pool makes some of the best modern gins coming out of England. The result is said to be a balanced spirit, celebrating Japan’s ‘bounty of blossom’. The liquid is recommended served in a gin and tonic, or in a Spritz. Gin and vodka are exceptionally popular categories in New Zealand, with the gin market expected to grow annually by 11.09% and the vodka market expected to grow annually by 9.94% (CAGR 2022-2025), according to Statista.” At Home Tasting Kits will be sold on The Gin To My Tonic Online Store for each Award Category, offering the public the opportunity to become judges from the comfort of their own home.

Any young distillery will know that competition means that you have to be innovative, considered and motivated to succeed as a business. This must be reflected in everything you do. So we are expecting this category to be hotly contested and some incredible young distilleries to make it through to the peoples choice finals.

This coveted award will be shortlisted to between eight - twelve finalists by our panel of expert judges. The winner will be decided by the public over a 5 month voting period commencing 31st May, with votes driven through a variety of different content, events, tastings and experiences. The LIVE virtual tastings are carried out in the last week of the month. Please keep an eye on our socials for confirmed dates! From the makers of Bruichladdich whisky, The Botanist gin has a sophisticated citrus-forward flavour that pairs well with tonic and ice. Gin is now available in every fruit combination imaginable, but we love the sophisticated flavour of olive leaf, which Australian gin maker Four Pillars uses at the centre of its bottle. Expect sophisticated lavender, elderflower and lemon notes, inspired by the English countryside, and add a splash of lime juice to serve.

If there’s only one hand-blown bottle on your drinks trolley, make it this one. Kent-based Chapel Down is a brand better known for its English sparkling wine production (currently giving champagne a run for its money). However, this fresh and fruity bacchus gin is an impressive addition to its roster. The UK gin market has exploded in recent years with hundreds of distilleries opening in the past two years across the country. As part of our continued endeavours we are keen to nurture growth, promote talent, encourage innovation and raise awareness of fantastic small batch craft distillers, and as such we will be rewarding one distillery with a year's worth of marketing and event support in 2024 (all costs covered). This category is sure to be hotly contested and any gin used in a Martini needs to have a real sense of character. THE JUDGING CRITERIA

It’s exceptionally complex, with a soft whisky-like touch thanks to the precise 71 nights it spends in three different oak casks. The botanicals are next level, including a rare cactus that flowers for just one night a year. With so much going on, you’d be a fool to add tonic, so sip this one neat before heading out for the night. Born in Kagoshima Japan, in the shadow of the Sakurajima volcano, Ukiyo Yuzu Gin is made from a traditional Japanese shochu spirit, which is then redistilled using juniper, yuzu, more citrus and a whole host of regional botanicals. With an abundance of choice when it comes to flavourings, expect some unique and inspiring entries in this category. The shortlisted finalists will be decided by a judging panel that includes the Co-Founders of The Gin To My Tonic, Craft Distiller Partners, Key Influencers, Bartenders, Mixologists, Mixer Brands and Associated Drinks Bodies/Clubs, with the winners being decided by public vote over a 5 month voting period.
