Description

If you need air at the side of the road either drive to a garage if its just low or change the wheel. Unfortunately that’s where the similarity ends, because with this Ring RAC700 the compressor-mounted gauge, standard-length air hose, and 12V plug on the power lead are all much more like the budget DIY models on our test bench. HEAVY DUTY CONSTRUCTION: the air compressor has metal body, brass connector and hard-wearing storage bag so it can withstand heavy duty use. The Ring RAC700 4×4 Air Compressor weighs a hefty 2.091kg and measures 175mm high, 200mm wide and 130mm deep.

Ring RAC900 Air Compressor gets 4.5 Stars from Auto Express

I too thought the RAC 900 should be a good choice for my 215/75R 16C tyres, 51 psi front, 69 psi rear. This one looks the business but I am concerned that it may be too technical for us in that it needs to be connected directly onto the battery. Is this a relatively easy thing to do? (Can I connect the terminals to my leisure battery without disconnecting the motorhome terminals?) IDEAL FOR LARGER VEHICLES: this powerful air compressor is ideal for inflating high pressure tyres. It also comes with 7m extendable airline, which can stretch the full length of a motorhome or transit van. POWERFUL INFLATION: inflates a 13” tyre from flat to 35psi in 90 seconds. Powered directly from a 12V battery to give the fastest possible inflation. The Halfords product is OK, but the lever-operated connector is crudely made and far from sturdy - I accidentally stood on mine and the connector and hose parted company.

In terms of layout, this T-Maxx product and the RAC900 are practically the same. The compressor’s power leads clamp directly to battery terminals, and the large coiled hose allows plenty of distance between the compressor and the coupling/gauge/deflate button. While the power lead is a smidgen longer than the RAC900’s, the air hose is shorter. And, ultimately, the Ring is the faster unit, with this one taking five seconds short of two minutes in the inflation test.

Inflating a motorhome tyre with a portable 12 volt compressor is likely to burn out the motor before the tyre is up to pressure. And it will take an eternity. Sorry to hear your yellow hose is damaged and needs replacing. You could try binding the hole with several layers of good PVC electrical tape if the pipe is clean and the holes are somewhere away from the connectors on the ends. If you happen to travel regularly for lengthy periods, particularly overseas, as I do, then carrying some tyre inflation device is definitely to be recommended IMO.

The inflation rate quoted is ‘under four minutes to get a tyre from flat to 35PSI’. By contrast, the Ring RAC900, for instance, takes just one minute and 40 seconds to inflate a tyre to 35PSI. They said it was not up to the job and if I used the RAC 900 on these tyres it would not be covered by the warranty.I've no interest in further cluttering up my garage with the type of compressor you bought, but I do value the versatility of a powerful 12V tyre-pump that takes up little storage space and can travel with me in my motorhome. If people are looking for a pump most suitable for inflating motorhome tyres at any time or place, then I don't think there's anything better on the market than the RAC-900. If they just want a mains-powered pump, then they can do as you did, but they won't be able to travel with it. But the best - by a mile - was the RAC900. Although you do need to crocodile-clip it to the battery (flip the bonnet and find the jump start points) it has a really long lead and its design features a massive air-line style spiral air line tube. So you don't need any adaptors even on the longest of motorhomes. Away from a petrol station I still used a foot pump. I once bought a cheap air compressor to inflate tyres but it was too noisy. I felt inhibited from using it at home on the driveway in case I disturbed my neighbours. So I got rid of it. a T connector with an isolating valve with a push fitting connector, and a length of air hose with a tyre inflator would be required.. I had this on my RV which had air brakes and self levelling suspension..

Below are the three Inflation Adapters included for inflating balls, airbeds, paddling pools, etc.: Inflation Adapters He also had a look but came to the same conclusion.. the air couldn't go in without opening the valve.. https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/12v-van-tyre-pump-recomendations-please-/49906/The mini test pitched the Ring RAC900 Air Compressor against a newly released product, and assessed both on inflation rate, hose and lead length, as well as the accessories that come with each. The Ring RAC900 performed well across the board, being named “a great little machine”. During inflation, “Ring has the edge”, adding 3PSI more per minute to the tyre compared to the competition. The analogue gauge was “more accurate”, the air release valve was noted, as was the fact that “everything goes together via quality brass fittings”. If you can’t find the help needed on our DIY blog then why not head over to our forum where you can can help from both tradesmen and other DIY experts. The power consumption of the RAC900 is 280 Watts. That’s equivalent to 5 car headlamp bulbs of 55 Watts each. This is much more than a cigar lighter which is often 180Watts. And it’s continuous throughout the time you’re pumping the tyre.
