TYSON AND D’AMATO — Few fighters have captured the public imagination the way that Mike Tyson did. The primary architect of “Iron Mike” as the world saw him was Cus D’Amato. Dr. Maltsev tells readers that they should read Confusing the Enemy and Iron Ambition to fully appreciate this book, advice with which I agree. Also, when reading Patti’s section, one should do so with a young Tyson in mind, for he was the definitive adherent of the D’Amato style. A professional fighter has got to learn to hit and not get hit and at the same time be exciting. That’s what professional boxing is about.” – Cus D’amato. Russia’s Kovalev (32-2-1, 28 KOs) has lost some luster and hopes to reboot his popularity with a win against Canada’s Eleider Alvarez (23-0, 11 KOs). But he will be directly competing against WBA champ Bivol (13-0, 11 KOs), also of Russia, who defends against Isaac Chilemba (25-5-2) of South Africa. More significantly, there are places where Tyson goes over the line in ascribing powers to D’Amato and others. At one point, he describes a man who can take the sights off a BB gun, put a piece of tissue over the hole in the center of a metal washer, throw the washer in the air, and shoot a BB through the center of the washer. “But the amazing thing,” Tyson claims, “was that he could teach anyone to do this within an hour and they’d never miss.”

There had been lots of chatter about Pacquiao facing Mikey Garcia next. Garcia (39-0, 30 KOs) has been decimating competition at both lightweight and junior welterweight. Garcia is considered by most experts to be one of the top 10 pound-for-pound fighters in the sport. He’s the TBRB junior welterweight champion and a unified lightweight titleholder (WBC, IBF). While Garcia is hoping to land a big money bout against IBF welterweight titleholder Errol Spence, most boxing experts believe the jump up to 147 pounds would be too much for the diminutive Garcia who began his career at featherweight. A better welterweight target for Garcia would be Pacquiao who also began his career in a much lower weight class. Lightning rod that strikes faster than lightning itself” itself is the second book by Oleg Maltsev in a series of books written about the legendary boxing trainer Cus D’Amato. The origins of the Tyson-D’Amato relationship are well known. Simply stated, in Mike’s words, “I was a bad kid. Went to institutions. Then I met an old guy who trained fighters. And this guy gave me the blueprint for the rest of my life.” I do not think that now I am the best light heavyweight, but I am now one of the best. One of four guys,” said Bivol during a press conference call. “But I hope in not the far future, we will know who is the best.”Steve Lott worked with Bill Cayton and Jim Jacobs for well over a decade, was in Tyson’s corner for virtually all of Mike’s fights through Tyson-Spinks, and shared an apartment with Tyson for several years. But there’s no mention of the role that Lott played in Tyson’s life. Do you know what Cus’s last words to Tyson were? It wasn’t something loving like, “I love you, son, you’ve done me proud.” Cus’s last words to Tyson were: “Move your head, move your head.” Laurence Cole (pictured alongside his father) was singled out for his behavior as the third man in the ring for the fight between Regis Prograis and Juan Jose Velasco at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on July 14. The bout was televised live on ESPN. Another being severely tested will be Emilio Sanchez (15-1, 10 KOs) facing veteran Christopher Martin (30-10-3, 10 KOs) who is capable of beating anyone. The author, Dr. Oleg Maltsev had several questions about the life of Cus D’Amato and this book investigates the historical, cultural and even psychological elements of his life that influenced the man, his style and success as a trainer. This is the result of twenty years of research by the author.

Love, 30, has long been a mainstay in Las Vegas and since his amateur days his abilities have been touted. Throughout the years Love has shown that charm and friendliness can go a long ways, even in the bitter wars of prizefighting. But the time has come to see if he belongs in the prizefighting world. Quillin will present an immense challenge for Love. One of the more interesting aspects of this book for me personally is the detailed comparison of Cus’s boxing style to the Neapolitan style of Spanish swordsmanship. Dr. Maltsev through his research located treatises from the 17th and 18th centuries or which contained much of the information contained within Cus’ style. That, of course, would mean a date with Kovalev should both fighters win on Saturday. Nothing is certain. Lomachenko (11-1, 9 KOs) is naturally smaller than Pacquiao and has never fought above 135 pounds. If Pacquiao could lure Lomachenko to 140 pounds or above, he’d find himself in a winnable fight against a top-notch opponent. Lomachenko would probably be the slight favorite based on age alone but Pacquiao’s power and athleticism would give him a realistic chance to pull the upset.

This gave him firsthand knowledge and insight into the legendary trainer as well as a demonstration and detailed explanations of his style. “Cus is a gift that God gave the world of boxing”, Mr. Patti said. Balykin, Alexander. "Бескомпромиссный Маятник". Academy of Development of Human Abilities . Retrieved 20 October 2018. Top Rank’s two hottest commodities at the present are Ring Magazine and WBA lightweight champ Lomachenko and welterweight titlist Crawford. Both are highly-regarded, multi-division world titleholders in the primes of their careers who are universally considered the top fighters in boxing. The president of the National League of Professional Boxing of Ukraine, Mikhail Zavyalov [ ru], generally praised the book. However, he is ready to argue with a fragment of the book where it is said that without the instinct of the killer a boxer will not become king in the ring. In contrast, he refers to the current boxers Vasily Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk, who in his opinion, do not possess the killer instinct. [19] You might be asking yourself what boxing has to do with swordsmanship. From the quote above, Cus understood the importance of not getting hit while at the same time putting yourself in a position to strike your opponent.

Non-compromised pendulum

A number of other interesting fights are slated to take place among former world champions including Sergey Lipinets who lost the super lightweight title to Mikey Garcia this past winter. There’s also Luis Collazo in a welterweight match. In an unprecedented development, the Boxing Writers Association of America has started a “watch list” to lift the curtain on ring officials who have “screwed up.” Veteran Texas referee Laurence Cole and Nebraska judges Mike Contreras and Jeff Sinnett have the unwelcome distinction of being the first “honorees.” Dr. Antonio Graceffo compares the Non-compromised Pendulum with the Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi and with the treatise Art of War by Sun Tzu. Graceffo noted the concept "2 + 3 = 5" and its practical aspects in and out of the ring. The number "2" of the equation means a duel between a coach and student, by means of which the coach gains authority in the eyes of his mentee. Graceffo emphasized that while Cus D’Amato was able to subordinate and "defeat" Mike Tyson, he did not damage his personality. In his words the book is meant to develop a non-compromised approach and mind-set. [15]Gonzalez, Martin. "Martin Gonzalez nos dice sobre el libro "Un péndulo intransigente" ". Boxeo Mundial . New book gives in-depth look at Cus D’Amato’s training system

In a way, the situation was analogous to Floyd Patterson’s betrayal of D’Amato. Cus guided Patterson to the heavyweight championship of the world. Then Floyd dumped him. Reflecting on what happened afterward, Tyson declares, “The one person who betrayed Cus the worst always got a pass from him. Cus never said anything derogatory about him. He always defended him. Cus said only beautiful things about him. I was jealous of Patterson. Cus loved him so much. Then I realized that the reason Cus always stayed loyal to Floyd, despite all of Floyd’s treacherous acts, was that Floyd gave Cus his championship. He gave him that feeling that Cus always wanted. So Cus was indebted to him.” Four years ago, Tyson co-authored an autobiography entitled Undisputed Truth with Larry Sloman. Now Tyson and Sloman have reunited to write Iron Ambition (Blue Rider Press), a biography of D’Amato as viewed through the prism of his relationship with Tyson. Cole was the third man in the ring for the Nov. 25, 2006 bout in Hildalgo, Texas, between Juan Manuel Marquez and Jimrex Jaca. In the fifth round, Marquez sustained a cut on his forehead from an accidental head butt. In round eight, another accidental head butt widened and deepened the gash. As Marquez was being examined by the ring doctor, Cole informed Marquez that he was ahead on the scorecards, volunteering this information while holding his hand over his HBO wireless mike. The inference was that Marquez was free to quit right then without tarnishing his record. (Marquez elected to continue and stopped Jaca in the next round.) There’s a poignant recounting of Tyson’s last conversation with D’Amato, which took place in Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York on November 3, 1985, one day before Cus died.Too often, things D’Amato said that are demonstrably false are treated as true. For example; one factor adding to D’Amato’s certainty that Tyson would be heavyweight champion of the world someday was the astrological phenomenon that – in Tyson’s words – “I passed Cus’s test. I’m a Cancer. Every heavyweight champion was born under only three signs, and Cancer was one of them.” While D’Amato’s life story has been chronicled in multiple forums (the most notable of which were the giant books Confusing the Enemy by Dr. Scott Weiss and Paige Stover as well as Mike Tyson’s Iron Ambition ), the details of D’Amato’s system, for the most part, had been revealed in bits and pieces. Thanks to the efforts of Ukrainian psychologist/martial arts teacher Dr. Oleg Maltsev and D’Amato mentee Tom Patti, the gaps are starting to be filled thanks to a book whose title is as enigmatic as its subject: Non-compromised Pendulum. The Greatness of the Sword” by Don Luis Pacheco Narvaez written in 1605 and the treatise from 1582 by Jeronimo de Carranza title “Philosophy of Arms” that details the use of Spanish Corners which is about controlling the geometry on the ground are just two examples from the book. Every boxing trainer understands the importance of their fighter controlling distance and angles and were documented hundreds of years ago. The author clearly presents the scientific methods, documents and explanations used to analyze the core Cus’ style.
