For contemporary new builds, we would advise the installation of flexible or small skirting profiles to complement the ceiling height. One of our most popular skirting profiles for new builds is our SX163 Contemporary Skirting Board . A simplistic yet plush design, it complements minimalistic decor choices. Alternatively, we would suggest our SX125 Small Skirting Board which affords a curved style which is perfect for modern properties.

Is it durable? PVC skirting boards are made of polyvinyl chloride, which is a flexible but hard-wearing material that has been around for decades. They can be used in any environment and provide an excellent level of protection against fire as they will not ignite under normal circumstances thanks to their low melting point (150 degrees centigrade). Suitability A key point to make is that PVC skirting boards are not suitable for use in any high-rise buildings because they do have a certain degree of flammability and the materials used can release harmful fumes. Ease Of Installation It is more and more popular solution to achieve unified vertical surfaces of interior. This creates harmonized structure of walls. But it is crucial to pay attention to colours as each producer may have slightly different shade so even something as simple as white skirting can vary from one to another. Currently the most popular solution is to determine colours by the RAL palette. So a white skirtings in this system would be depicted by code RAL 9003. So when comparing shapes, width, length between different producers there is greater chance of choosing the same colour when RAL code is given. Since last year there are more designs of interiors using different shades of grey for doors and matching them with skirtings – the two most popular are RAL 7035 and RAL 7042. Secondly, hight and material of skirting board The rule that is safe to follow stands that skirting boards should be matched with the floor. Especially when it comes to performance features and usability factors. When you decide to use the skirting from the offer of the floor producer, you gain certainty that skirting will match floor in terms of a colour. Deciding on the company with great experience in skirting production, usually there is more colours to choose from and product has better technical parameters.Regardless if it is for a commercial office or home, you need an attractive and functional solution for where the wall meets the floor with your new floor project, and additionally, it needs to have an attractive finish. Without skirting, that transition from the wall to the floor just doesn’t look quite as polished and finished. Plastic (PVC) skirting boards are one of those building products that are becoming a popular choice for homeowners wanting a waterproof option for a kitchen or bathroom or businesses like a gym where skirting board covers need to stand up to much wear and tear over a long period of time. Grand Victorian properties benefit from skirting boards through their ability to create smooth transitions from high ceilings to the floor. Within our collection, we’d recommend that Victorian homeowners opt for our SX118 Skirting Board which complements traditional architectural structures. Slim Skirting Board for Contemporary BuildsThe floor is the largest when it comes to covered area element of a home. It is not only up to floor planks itself to create the beautiful environment but well matched accessories can make a difference. Choice of the skirting boards in many cases can be done at the final stage of renovation or finishing apartment and hence can be overlooked. In the meantime, skirting boards has not only aesthetical purpose, but also important functional meaning. Its quality, durability and appearance can make or break to final outcome of interior. Well suited skirting will allow to emphasize the qualities of even the most beautiful floor. On the other hand, wrong skirting can optically reduce the size of the room or disturb its proportions. So what you should take into account while choosing skirting boards? Are skirting boards a must? Skirting boards are meant to cover dilatation gap by the wall. It must be highlighted, though, that there is a very real difference between something that is “moisture resistant” and “waterproof”. If you are decorating a wet-room for example then moisture resistant MDF skirting boards would not be appropriate. They would not repel large amounts of water. Similarly, if a property were to flood, you wouldn’t expect a skirting board to remain intact in this environment if it is manufactured from MR MDF. If you are looking for a fully waterproof skirting board then you may wish to consider other materials like UPVC plastic, tile or stone. They're not waterproof. Prolonged exposure to water will cause the MDF to swell. For this reason, we wouldn't recommend using MDF skirting boards in a wet room. The boards are easy-to-maintain because they don’t need any polishing or sealing of wood surfaces from spills that occur during food preparation etc., so it’s a good option for those who don’t have the time or inclination to be faffed with wood
