Description

The Daiwa Mission Overnighter's canopy is made from extra durable "pu" coated nylon and also features strong taped seams. Based around the traditional brolly shape this overnighter also has extended sides and a Velcro attachable ground sheet. One of the features that set the shelter apart from those similar to it, is the storm peak. This adds additional protection from rain if you are sittting in your fishing chair with all your gear around you under the shelter. Rigidity is much improved, too. Rather than having thin ribs, most brolly shelters or domes utilise hollow frame bars, which are opened out and slotted together to give excellent stability. Some even offer additional tensioning poles which fit between the bars to increase stability even more, and thus you could fish into harsher conditions in relative comfort each year with greater ease than you could with an oval brolly.

Anglers looking for a lightweight, umbrella-type shelter that could be used overnight on warmer evenings. The frame of the shelter comes already set up, so you don't have to spend time assembling poles and threading them through the tent's fabric. I went fishing last Saturday and it pored with rain and when I got home I had take outside to dry as it was still soaking wet anyway not bad apart from the pegs. The compact nature of the fishing shelter makes it slim enough to easily fit in your rod holdall with plenty of room spare for landing net handles and such. There are various extras you can get (many of which come as standard) with oval brollies including groundsheets, front panels with windows and roll up and removable doors, and even full winter wraps. All these extras only add to the versatility of the oval brolly and allow the angler to simply take the extras required to cater for the conditions at hand.

There are 4 ribs that make up the frame of this brolly system which makes it sturdy and rigid and there is an option that allows you to change the doors from clear PVC, a solid Khaki door, or just the mozzy mesh. That said, there are a number of extras you can get for a brolly system including side bars, front bars and over wraps, all of which will aid stability and allow it to be used in harsher conditions. I’m a big fan of the old style oval brollies, and have used them myself extensively over the years. They are versatile, lightweight, and can be set up or broken down in a minute. Transportation is also extremely easy as they will slip straight into a rod bag or quiver.Supplied separately the overwrap converts the shelter to a mini bivvy and also features a roll up zippable door for easy access.A convient 5'6 when folded, 2.3m wide and 1.5m tall when fully erect. Verdict– We love it. A no nonsense carp fishing shelter that offers real value for money. Lightweight, yet robust, it’s the perfect companion for those doing regular overnighters who like to travel light. The Daiwa Mission provides extended storm sides to help protect against heavy winds and horizontal rain. You also benefit from groundsheet protection which is handy if you want a dry surface available to you before you stow your gear. Two strong storm rods are also supplied for fitting to the front of the canopy as shown in the above image. Additionally, advancements with the old internal brolly design by Aqua and Trakker saw the framework moved to the outside of the shelter, which increased space and improved the stability. As such, there are now a whole host of brolly style bivvies to choose from, but more on those later.

As a general rule of thumb, the higher the ‘mm’ rating, the more waterproof the brolly. It’s also worth mentioning that you don’t want to be sitting or putting your gear on wet ground. A groundsheet keeps everything under the brolly nice, dry and protects against rising damp. Verdict – A firm favourite out on the banks, the Trakker Specimen Brolly is truly versatile and adaptable. It stands up well to the elements and is extremely easy to use. Highly rated.

The Strongbow is capable of withstanding gale force winds and monsoon like storms. The skin is heavy-duty for long term waterproofing and durability. It also features zip-able panels to expose mosquito windows, a rear mesh vent to enhance airflow, a storm window and a removable groundsheet.

The doors on this shelter have 2-way zips that enable you to create a letterbox type opening that protects and allows for good ventilation at the same time. When extended fully, this bar offers increased rigidity throughout the shelter's interior space by providing extra tension all around its perimeter.

Verdict– For us, the Crossfire sits somewhere between the Aqualite and the Armo. It’s perhaps more sturdy than the Aqualite, but not as nimble or as fast to set up, yet on the other hand, it’s not as cumbersome as the Armo. As such, it’s ideal for the overnight or short stay angler who wants that extra protection but without all the extra weight!
