If you go into this book expecting only romance - you will be disappointed, even if what u get in TSV will set you on fire. But the plot is so much more - it gave me The Vampire Diaries, The Phantom of the Opera and Beauty and the Beast vibes. As I mentioned there's a murder mystery, a masquerade ball, there are ghosts, betrayal and heartbreak and scorching tension. Célie's arc is so beautiful and compelling I couldn't put this down. It was great to see everyone from the first series, though I would have liked to see them more. Always a fan of Lou and Reid. But I also enjoyed all the newcomers so it balanced out. After the heartbreaking events of Blood and Honey, our cast of characters are even more determined to seek vengence, but to do that they will first have to learn how to handle their grief. Lou is different. A darkness has settle over her and it will take a lot more than expected to drive it out. This darkness might actually ruin everything.

And the way he treats Célie, the way he is when he's with her and everything that happens between them is just...

I probably insist on this every time I write a review for a spin off series (see: OUaBH) but for the love of all that is unholy don't skip the original trilogy. This book is absolutely stunning! It kept me hooked and I did not want to put it down at all. However, this book does contain an explicit sexual scene! If you've read any of the "A Court of Thorns and Roses" books by Sarah J. Maas, this book is extremely similar in terms of language and sexual content. This book didn't have a lot of violence, but when it did, it was fairly graphic. Also, there is quite a bit of language in this book. I don't know why CSM only says it's occasional. There are a lot of instance of the f-word, lots of the s-word, and pretty much any other word you can think of. The main character (Lou) has a pretty filthy mouth, so just be aware of that. Aside from this, the storyline was excellent and the romance was very swoon worthy! Just be aware of the content of this book! As a twenty year old, I thoroughly enjoyed it. But I don't think this is the best book for younger teens (16 or under). There's plenty of other books to enjoy for that audience. (This book should not be considered Young Adult. Instead, it is a New Adult book which means there is more sexual content and for a slightly older audience than a YA book.) Shelby Mahurin is the author of the Serpent and Dove series. How Many Books Are in the Serpent and Dove Series? It almost makes who she becomes more significant, more noteworthy. To un-become the very being people fight to be heard over. She starts as someone and has to learn to become no-one... only to become someone infinitesimally better. She's kind, she wants to spread that, and she's smart about it.

I went into it with no expectations, yet I'm disappointed. From now on, in my heart, Serpent and Dove is a standalone. The sequels don't actually exist as they did this series so dirty. I've come from loving the first book to just hating both books that we got after. I don’t think I can say too much about the love interest without getting into spoilers, but prepare to add him to the list of your favorite broody heroes. Their relationship has serious Feysand meets Phantom of the Opera vibes, and I could not have enjoyed it more. The side cast of characters was just as amazing as the secondary characters from the first trilogy, and I can’t wait for everybody to meet them. The fandom will certainly not be disappointed.To be honest, the word «pouffiasse» was not even the good word to use for this context. It is like a less vulgar variation of the word "slut". It is more a word used by people gossiping about someone, not during an interaction with the person in question.
