Notting Hill premieres in Leicester Square". BBC News Online. 27 April 1999 . Retrieved 23 May 2007. Science fiction author China Miéville was cast as an extra in the film, which he humorously described as a dystopian alternative history of an ethnically-cleansed city. [5] They brought with them not only their talents, skills and work ethic but also their vibrant cultures and indomitable spirit. They help rebuild post-war Britain, enriching our society with their traditions, music and food, leaving an indelible mark on our collective identity.”Puccio, John J. Working on our 2020 Dub London display provided a fantastic opportunity to revisit and enrich our photography collection, examining our images of exuberant Notting Hill Carnival revellers, 1960s blues parties, music gigs and record shops, 1970s fashions, and anti-racism protests. Collaborating closely with Dub Curators Terry Dhaliwal Davies and Cedar Lewisohn, it was especially rewarding to get to know some of the most iconic figures in the history of dub reggae; people who radically transformed London’s music scene in the post-war period. Many of these now legendary characters were captured by celebrated London photographers such as Charlie Phillips and Dennis Morris who, like their subjects, were first or second generation Windrush migrants with roots in the Caribbean. a b "95: NOTTING HILL". The film score and original music was recorded and mixed by Gareth Cousins (who also mixed all the songs used in the film) and Simon Rhodes. He added: “The Notting Hill Carnival, with its message of unity and inclusivity, serves as a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to create a fair and just society. Let’s make this year’s Notting Hill Carnival a resounding tribute to the Windrush Generation and a testament to the power of unity and inclusion.”Dutch album certifications – Trevor Jones – Notting Hill" (in Dutch). Richard Curtis developed the film from thoughts while lying awake at night. He described the starting point as "the idea of a very normal person going out with an unbelievably famous person and how that impinges on their lives". [6] In an interview with GQ in 2018, Hugh Grant claimed the film was based on real life and loosely followed a friend of Richard's who fell in love with an 'extremely world-famous person who [Grant wasn't] allowed to mention'. [7] Much like the film, Curtis's friend was an everyday person who met the well known celebrity in a shop (Harrods) and they ended up having a relationship. It was as a live act that they probably had the most impact and the album was built around the core of the set they played on tour. The singles, ‘Feel Like Going Home’, a Charlie Rich song, powerfully delivered by Brendan Croker and ‘Go Your Own Sweet Way’, Knopfler’s sole writing credit on the album, both performed well in a number of markets and, while the third single, Phillip’s song ‘Will You Miss Me’, didn’t fare so well as a single release, it regularly features in lists of favourite Hillbillies songs. It seems likely, anyway, that the singles were at the request of the record company, Vertigo/Warner Brothers, the Hillbillies being focused on being a live, touring band.
