Description

Consists of a central heating boiler and a separate, pressurised hot water tank fed directly by the cold water mains feed, so the tank heats and stores hot water at mains pressure. The Wiser Hub can be installed in just 20 minutes using the industry standard wall plate included. Wire into your existing cylinder thermostat for hot water control. The system is suitable for 99% of all UK boilers. A room thermostat controls the heating in your home. If the room's temperature drops below your chosen temperature, the thermostat will switch on. Once the room has reached the chosen temperature, the thermostat will turn the heating off, preventing overheating and reducing energy consumption. This can help reduce your home's energy consumption. The Wiser 3 channel thermostat kit is ideal for properties with two heating zones. Control your heating and hot water more easily with smart technology. Requires a three-channel Wiser kit ( Wiser Thermostat Kit 3) – note that you won’t require the third channel, because the hot water control in a combi system is not separate. A two-channel kit is not suitable for a combi system with two heating zones as the second channel in the two-channel kits is only suitable for hot water control in a conventional boiler system (with a separate hot water tank).

Insights tab provides stats about the number of hours the heating has been switched on and energy saving made through Eco mode The Drayton Wiser system lets you set a schedule for each thermostat, indicating a desired temperature for each room in your home at different times of the day. For example, you can set the bathroom to warm up first thing in the morning and last thing at night, if you don’t use it during the day. As already mentioned, you can override a set schedule at any time by manually twisting the top of the radiator thermostat (turning the heating on in that room for 30 minutes) or from the app, where you can choose for the heating to remain on for between 30 minutes and three hours. On the 2-channel programmer where you set your schedules, try setting the hot water side to off and the central heating side to on. If doing this automatically turns on the hot water side as well, this would indicate a gravity system. ADVANTAGES OF GRAVITY-FED SYSTEMS (non-pumped)

Drayton’s Wiser impressed us last year by being easy to set up and cheap to buy. This year, those two attributes still count, but the company has also made several underlying improvements, including IFTTT and Google Home support. There’s no geolocation built into the app to set Away mode automatically, although the IFTTT channel does let me automate this. I have my system turn on Away mode when the Abode alarm turns on; when the alarm turns off, I have Wiser turn Away mode off. Comfort mode, meanwhile, learns how your home warms up, so the heating can be turned on early to reach your desired temperature by a set time. However, it does have an Away Mode. Rather than switching the heating off completely while you’re out, this feature allows you to set a minimum temperature at which you want your home to remain at while away. If the temperature plunges below this threshold, the heating will spring to life – handy, if you're concerned about frozen pipes when you’re not at home. Honeywell Evohome gives more flexibility, with its custom actions and IFTTT channel. Its radiator thermostats are also more fully featured, letting you set the temperature you want from the room. If you want the most powerful and flexible multiroom heating system, then, we’d recommend Evohome.

That’s neat, as you can start with the cheap kit and then upgrade as you see fit to add TRVs to every radiator in the house. Once you’ve done that, the room thermostat can be used to control a room and all TRVs in it, as Wiser supports rooms with multiple radiators. Can provide good pressure in some residential areas where mains water pressure is low, particularly if the water circuit is also upgraded with pumps. A cold water feed or expansion tank is situated higher than the hot water cylinder, usually in the loft or attic.

Requires a two-channel Wiser kit ( Wiser Thermostat Kit 2 or Wiser Multi-zone Kit 2), to control the central heating via one channel and hot water via the other. A distinctive feature of a gravity-fed system is four 22mm or 28mm copper pipes connected to the boiler (sometimes three pipes if an injector T is fitted, but a fourth 22mm or 28mm copper pipe will still be nearby). Less suitable for smaller homes due to the requirement for a water cylinder and cold water tank in addition to the central heating boiler. Four 22mm or 28mm copper pipes connected to the boiler (sometimes three pipes if an injector T is fitted, but a fourth 22mm or 28mm copper pipe will still be nearby). Combi boilers only allow for one hot tap, bath or shower to be running at a time, by running more than one it will significantly reduce the pressure to each, which can be a problem for larger households with high demand for hot water.A combi boiler requires good water pressure, so may not be suitable in some residential areas where pressure is low.
