The Hoover Air Purifier 700 also has a diffuser function that releases different fragrances or probiotics into the air. It came with two options, the first of which was Detox Ritual, a H-ESSENCE essential oil. The second was H-BIOTICS, a natural blend of probiotics that can be diffused into the air to create more hygienic surfaces, and inhibit the proliferation of harmful microorganisms such as microbes and bacteria. Can air purifiers remove smells? As hayfever season hasn’t really started yet, I haven’t been able to fully test the 100% Pollen Neutraliser Technology which pulls in and traps pollen from the air, before neutralizing it. I will look forward to seeing how effective this is later in the year and I will update this post. Using the air purifier’s humidifier function So I guess the question is, is this air purifier worth it? I was extremely pleased with just how much it alleviated my allergies. I honestly wasn’t expecting the outcome to be so good. We’ve been using it for just over two weeks now and haven’t suffered from any allergy symptoms at all in that time. And I haven’t had to take antihistamines or my inhaler at all. At first, I was disappointed to see that our air quality is mostly very good. The levels remained consistently green and there weren’t many occasions when the device was triggered and activated. Can air purifiers remove dust? The animal allergies are the worst as the symptoms are actually life-threatening. But if I simply avoid animals there’s no problem. If I go to someone’s home who has pets, I need to remember to take antihistamines beforehand and to take my inhaler with me. So this allergy is reasonably easy to control.

Noise is another factor – you don’t want to replace one irritation (allergies) with another (the sound of a jet plane in your room). For many, the hum is something that doesn’t bother them, but some purifiers can get very noisy. It’s also worth remembering that, while some machines are quiet on their lowest setting (where they’re often at their least effective), they might be loud on the fastest (where they’re working at their best). An air purifier works best when it is on all-day long in pollen mode. However, the air purifier will have to work harder if new pollen is being brought into the house constantly. Therefore, to make best use of your new air purifier follow these tips:

Is smoke harmful?

The air purifier will reduce the number of these particles over time as well as remove the particles causing odour – this will make the air cleaner and neutralise the odour. Some purifiers have a built-in timer. This can be really useful if you want your machine to come on a few hours before you get home, or if you want to turn it off automatically at night. It was when the air purifier was in the kitchen that it was triggered most often. My husband loves to cook and this seemed to activate the device a fair bit. I was hoping that it would remove the cooking smells and it did help a little but it didn’t get rid of them completely on automatic mode. I ended up switching to max for a little while after cooking and this got better results. Considering an average UK living room of 20m2 (with a height of 2.4m), based on LABC UK data and a CADR of 330. It’s extremely easy to set up, just a case of inserting the filters in the base and turning it on. Operation via the remote and the little screen on the unit is straightforward, too. If you’ve never seen a domestic air purifier, this is exactly what you imagined it would be like.

Why are people suddenly scrambling to get their hands on the best air purifiers? Poor air quality can lead to a range of health complaints. The problem is particularly acute in our cities: poor air quality outside can cause poor air quality indoors.Pollen counts get higher and higher as spring approaches and then stay relatively high until autumn which can make those seasons which should be enjoyable a nightmare at times. When the opportunity came up to work with Hoover to test an air purifier, I wasn’t overly confident that it would make a difference but I was definitely intrigued and interested to try it out. I mean if it could alleviate my allergy symptoms that would make a huge difference to my life. Key specs – CADR: 240m³/h; Max room size: 20m²; Power settings: 4; Dimensions (WDH): 51 x 19 x 53cm; Weight: 5.9kg; Filter replacement indicator: Yes; Warranty: 1 year Allergies and symptoms relating to the ingestion of pollen are caused by the immune system when they mistake the harmless pollen to be an intruder. As the immune system reacts to defend itself it can lead to sneezing, a stuffy nose and watery eyes and general feeling of discomfort. It’s speed makes it ideal for living rooms and bedrooms and it can be wall-hung to save space,” says Matt Thomas of John Lewis. This is because, rather than drawing in air from behind, it draws it from a ring around its front surface. There is also a ring of coloured light all round it, which changes from green to red according to the air quality levels. In smart mode it adjusts its power accordingly.

Smoke is generally harmful to inhale and can lead to coughing and wheezing in the short term and chronic problems with over exposure – this is certainly true of second-hand cigarette smoke. If you suffer from respiratory conditions like asthma or you have young children in the household, you might be particularly concerned. Dr Jo Barnes is Associate Professor of Clean Air at the University of West England’s Air Quality Management Resource Centre. She explains that very fine particulate matter in the air at home can not only damage your lungs, but organs throughout the body.

So, if you have smoke in the home regularly or it enters from outside of the home the air purifier can significantly improve the air quality indoors and prevent lung damage which leads to better quality of life, reduced allergens and a better night’s sleep. Which H-PURIFIER is best for smoke? A Swiss manufacturer we’d not come across before, Stadler Form launched their first product, the odd-looking Fred humidifier, in 1998 and now produce high-quality fans, heaters, dehumidifiers and air purifiers. Our favourite is this one, Roger Little (there’s also a Roger Big for 104m 2 rooms and plain old Roger for 66m 2 rooms). While pollen, dust mites and bacteria can all be handled as a given, the active carbon filter promises to filter out more pollutants, such as cigarette smoke, fumes and odours. Depending on who you live with the latter pair might be more useful than you think. We found the Hoover H-Purifier 500 was more than capable of taking on the foul air produced by a Sunday roast-sized portion of Brussels Sprouts, so it’s essentially game for anything.

The diffuser feature can be really useful for households that experience a lot of smoke – the purifier can periodically release a pleasant aroma which can combat the bad smells created by the smoke – be it cigarette, cooking, fire burning or machinery. How to use an air purifier for smoke effectively It’s just as good as an air purifier too, though its CADR rating is slightly below that of the purifier-only Pro P2. In tests, it took PM2.5 levels from a maximum 411 micrograms per square metre to 25 in 135 seconds, bringing it down to double figures in just over a minute. Again like the Pro P2, it’s quiet, with the noise barely noticeable at the lowest speed in purifier mode. Left on Smart mode, with the front-facing display turned off, all but the lightest sleepers should be able to sleep through. There’s a Max setting if you want to have an extra bit of oomph going on with your purifying sessions. More usefully, there’s a Sleep mode too, which is all well and good although curiously Hoover hasn't incorporated a middle-ground setting, but that's probably because the Auto option does such a good job of keeping performance just about right on the money. Speed settings. Most air purifiers have a choice of speeds so you can keep it lower for sleeping and turn it up when the pollen count is high. A night mode can also help if you want a quiet setting and dimmer lights while you sleep, although we found this doesn’t always work as well as you’d hope.
