This is a great Bible option for kids, even elementary-aged and middle-grade kids. The text is written for kids, which helps make it understandable, digestible, and applicable for kids. Find out MORE about The Child’s Story Bible HERE. Story Bibles for Little Ones (Bibles for young kids) For our family Bible time, we pull from all of the Bibles below for different seasons, stories, and purposes. However, overall, we mostly use a full-text translation of the Bible.

We have quite a collection of Bible storybooks for little ones, but these are our favorites :: The Tiny Tots Bible– For ages: 0-3 If we aren’t given a full picture of God’s character and if our Bibles don’t talk about sin and we are never confronted with our sin, we will never recognize our need for a Savior! Would you think I was crazy if I told you that I didn’t know how to the Bible “fit” together until I was in college and began an in-depth Bible study? I didn’t realize that all of the individual stories I learned about in Bible Class (which I went to since I was a baby) all told about the same people, God’s chosen nation of Israel. Nor did I realize just how much the Old Testament pointed to the coming of our Savior in the New Testament. Thankfully, my children will not have this void in their faith walk with the prevalence of children’s bibles that tell the story of Jesus literally from the beginning. Young toddlers are at the age where they are very open and willing to hear about God. Their little hearts are so malleable and yearning to learn more about God. And even though it might seem like they are too young to understand much about God, they are soaking it in! They are soaking everything in from a very young age. And if your goal is to raise Godly kids who love and follow God then now is the time to start, when they are young and eager to learn about God. We continue to revisit our favorite Bible storybooks even as the kids grow (and especially because we have multiple ages in our family), but we transition the kids into a full-text Bible of their own around 6 years old. Sometime between six and eight years old also tends to be the time we begin helping the kids develop their own quiet time, so having their own Bible isn’t only important but exciting too. The Jesus Storybook Bible— For ages 5+Today I’m sharing some of our favorite Bible options for kids and families. Bibles for Family Bible Time (Mixed Ages) The ICB is actually the Bible I recommend for kids going through our You Already Are devotional journal for kids. The other primary reason you want to have a variety of Bibles for toddlers is to help keep them interested in reading their Bible. Young children have extremely short attention spans and get bored easily. And you certainly don’t want your child to get bored of God’s Word! So having a variety of options for their age level will help maintain a feeling of excitement and interest for reading God’s word within your child’s young heart. In Psalm 139, the writer ponders his first beginnings as an unborn child in the womb: ‘For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.’ 1 Similarly, in Jeremiah God says, ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you’ ( 1.5, NRSV).

This toddler Bible is written in more of a narrative form (unlike the poetry and actions that characterized the baby bibles). Your child will be able to recall some details from these stories and will begin to get a sense for the lessons each toddler Bible story teaches us. When I’m looking for a winner of a toddler Bible, I’m looking for a lot of the same things I would normally want in a children’s Bible. I covered that topic in this post, but I’ll review: #1 Biblical Accuracy All of my kids have loved reading these volumes over and over again. The pictures are a little different and keep the kids’ attention, and all of the stories emphasize God as the hero. The Big Picture Story Bible – For ages: 2-7 We see divine vocation in Luke’s Gospel with the wonderful story of Mary’s visit to Elizabeth. 2 Both women have parallel stories: neither expects to be pregnant and each stands in the presence of a miracle. Elizabeth says that her own unborn baby responded immediately with joy to the presence of the other; it is an unborn child who is the first to recognise and respond to Jesus and who causes Elizabeth to give joyful thanks and praise.

How does God commission children?

This sweet Bible story book is written by Sally Lloyd Jones (the same author of the Jesus Storybook Bible) and is great for interactive readers who love to lift flaps! Both Old and New Testament bible stories are included. I would suggest this Bible for babies from 1-2 years. Toddler Bible Too often churches overlook children age 1-3 and don’t provide a program of spiritual formation. That’s why we’re excited about this new Toddler Bible Curriculum from Bethany Darwin and the Sunday School Store. This material will give even the youngest children a solid foundation for their relationship with God. This is another great kids Bible that points to our need for a Savior. The illustrations are very lifelike and the bible itself is rather large, making the title even more relevant. This bible is appropriate for slightly older children because it is not really “fluffed” like many other children’s bibles. The Old Testament section of this Bible talks a lot about punishment and God’s anger, but then again…that is a lot of what we read about in the Old Testament. Overall, it paints a very realistic picture of the stories in the Bible. Over and over again, the Bible tells the true story of a holy God who did everything to rescue us from ourselves, to save us from our sin that we might have a relationship with Him and live our lives for His glory.

However, my current toddler totally latched onto it being “his” Bible and he loves it. And, I’ve learned to appreciate it too. It’s a classic for a reason and it does have some really good things going for it. My top two are that the stories are kept short and simple and I love that it has SO MANY stories to choose from that other toddler Bibles skip. These are really fun and engaging for toddlers and even though the stories are very short (a few sentences) and don’t have very much depth, they help to keep toddlers interested and still teach them about key concepts that happen within each Bible story.

God blesses children

In fact, Scripture remains deeply relevant and helpful in answering these questions as we navigate our own children through today’s world. We find children in the Bible who elucidate God’s nature so that we can gain a richer understanding of what God wants for them and what God asks of us as parents and carers. In particular, we can discover five important biblical themes about God’s relationship with children. We find that God calls children, saves children, commissions them, heals them and blesses them. How does God call children? In my experience, here are three things to look for that really help draw in even the wiggliest of toddlers: My husband and I are amazed with how much the girls retain from every Bible lesson. They can recite Bible verses and re-tellBible stories in their account, and be pretty accurate. They have their favorite Bible stories and characters and most important, they have a desire to learn more about God every day. It brings me great joy when they askif we can read a Bible story together. My preschoolers have loved this Bible, and the bonus is the audio CDs, so the kids can listen to the story as they read. We love that it emphasizes the Bible as one big story with Jesus at the center, and the stories are told simply enough for preschoolers to understand and remember.

I’ve read a few kids’ Bibles that never mention sin and others shy away from talking about God’s judgement. This is a huge problem! This is one of the first story Bibles I read with my kids. The simple language engages the understanding of my preschoolers, while the bold, bright colors capture the attention of even our babies. Only 14 main Bible stories are included in this story Bible, but it is a favorite of ours. Read-Aloud Bible Stories– For ages: 1-6. At other times, our go-to choice is The Child’s Story Bible by Catherine Vos(ours is an updated version of the 1935 original).

New Testament Bible Stories for Kids

This board-book baby Bible, much like The Pajama Bible, is written in beautiful poetry. There are only 10 stories included and they are relatively short (around 2 paragraphs each–perfect for a baby’s short attention span). The Bible itself is large enough to hug and the entire book is covered with a snuggly, sheep-like fabric (which you can’t see from the picture)! The emphasis of every story is on God’s love for us. This is now my go-to baby Bible for baby showers and baby gifts! This book is a tear-jerker (for adults, anyway). Ronnie learns about Jesus’ great sacrifice in Sunday School and wants to give Jesus a gift. He tries to mail Jesus his coveted baseball glove, but the post office doesn’t mail to Heaven. On his way home, he sees a man who is hungry and uses the money he brought for postage to buy the man a hot dog. Later on, he is jumping on his trampoline, trying to reach Heaven, when he sees his lonely neighbor boy over the fence. He asks his neighbor to jump on the trampoline with him. Finally, he buys a big balloon to use to fly his baseball glove to Jesus only to hear a little girl crying because her balloon floated away. Ronnie gives the little girl his balloon, but then feels badly because he didn’t give a gift to Jesus. That night he has a dream where Jesus tells him that when he gave the food to the hungry man, his time to his neighbor, and the balloon to the sad little girl, Ronnie was giving a gift to him. What is your family’s favorite children’s Bible? I hope that these toddler Bibles will help you and your children to dive in and learn God’s truth from the very beginning. And if I missed any good Bibles for toddlers, please feel free to comment below and let me know! I’d love to keep adding to this list as I find new ones. 🙂 Learn how to raise Godly Kids A lot of people recommend this story Bible for younger children, but my kids never appreciated it until they were a little bit older. Personally, I found the JSB to be incredibly impactful reading it as an adult. I recommend the JSB for kids over 6 years old, but I especially recommend it for adults! If you do read this one with younger kids, we have found the DVD set incredibly helpful for bigs AND littles (you can also watch it free as part of your Jelly Telly subscription!!)
