Description

Place the container (with the broken up crayons inside), in the microwave and microwave on high for 30-60 second intervals until the wax has completely melted. First, you’ll want to draw grass, using either crayons or oil pastels. Try to colour the grass strip in fully. Whether at home or in the classroom, this educational toy is sure to inspire creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong appreciation for the beautiful world of colors. This method works best with silicone molds are pretty small, like the mini dome mold I used. If you have a pretty big mold, you’ll want to go with the second technique. Crayon melting technique #2

This crayon resist art project seems so magical for children. It has the ‘wow factor’ and I always get a few gasps of wonder from children in my class. You want to kind of overfill them because when the crayons start to melt, the mass will shrink down. For this technique, you can actually stir the crayon wax between each interval to help the melting process. You don’t have to though. With over 900 fun shaped rainbow crayons later, Krayonshop® was built as home based business in 2002 being the first rainbow crayons in the market inspiring art lovers to start their new ventures to rainbow crayon art making. Process art: allow your child to explore the oil pastels in their own way and then add several colours of the water colours to their art work.

So, I switched to using a craft knife to carefully slice a line all the way across the paper (hot dog style, not hamburger) and then the whole piece of paper came right off. Once the wax is completely dry and has hardened again, you can pop the newly formed crayons out of the molds.

We hope that our list of colorful craft and rainbow projects has inspired you to get creative and have some fun with your little ones. Whether you’re looking for a rainy day activity or just want to add a pop of color to your home, there’s no denying that rainbows are a great source of inspiration. However, there are so many other ways to use the crayon resist technique. I encourage you to try some out: I’ve been an elementary school teacher for about 12 years and I’ve taught this art project for a number of years. Children, especially Kindergarten students absolutely love this project.

Crayon Resist Art Projects

Put broken pieces of crayons in separate microwavable containers, that can eventually be thrown away. It all started by a craft enthusiast, 7 year old girl and her mom in their humble kitchen in Philippines in attempts to finish a school project with no coloring supplies available, just broken, old and used crayons. Combining all the crayons using heat using a mold and creating a new shape with fun blended colors in every swipe. This technique turned to a hobby for decades and used as gifts for friends and school teachers and turned to a full time small family business in Washington.

This project works perfectly fine, and my students always love it. However, using better art materials definitely made this project even more fun! This is an option item and will only be used if you choose a specific crayon melting technique that I share below (which is technique #2 in step 4). If you opt for technique #1, you won’t need disposable, microwavable containers. How to Melt Crayons into Cool Shapes 1.Separate crayons by color. The Rainbow Sorting Crayons not only provide a fun color exploration activity but also serve as a tool for developing fine motor skills. Children can practice their hand-eye coordination as they grasp, manipulate, and place the crayons into the corresponding slots. This hands-on experience enhances dexterity and strengthens finger muscles, setting a foundation for writing and other important tasks. Shave short slivers off of the crayons all the way around, in different directions, using a craft blade. You can add some STEAM learning to this crayon-resist art project. The oil in the crayon will not mix with the water colours. This could be a great lead into a unit on the properties of different materials. I usually like to use only reusable items, but melting crayons really does ruin the container. So, I recommend using small paper cups or something similar that is microwave safe and disposable.
