Kenety, Brian (2005-08-22). "Centuries-old 'Budweiser Bier' heading for St Louis to take on American giant". Radio Praha . Retrieved 2017-12-06. Taste: A very forward malty sweetness balances nicely with the floral hops, which finishes slight spicy. Bitterness is low but it does pop it's head out for a brief moment. Carbonation is sharp around the mouth. Using the same process of lagering as Budvar Original and Budvar Reserve, Budvar Dark is made using three types of malt to add more style and characteristics to the final brew. It used caramel and roasted hops to create the dark colour and allow more of a sweet, nutty and roastiness to enter the flavour profile. In this case, Budweiser Budvar have had 750 years to refine this recipe using their whole cone Saaz hops, spring water from their own artisan well that runs underneath the brewery and Moravian barley - all sourced from Czechia - to make a lager that is a joy to drink.

The aftertaste is reminiscent of many European lagers, with a crisp malty finish that is very clean and refreshing, leaving just enough of a dry sensation to make you want to keep drinking more. Budvar Original: Bottle Notes Rousek, Leos (2014-07-02). "InBev Buys Brewery Where Budweiser Name Began". Wall Street Journal. ISSN 0099-9660 . Retrieved 2017-12-06. Budweiser supports British farmers sourcing 75% of it's malted barley locally and aiming to reach 100% of British barley by 2020. Easily one of the better known dark lagers and a real crowd favourite for a reason, this is a must-try for anyone who loves lager; European or otherwise. Budvar Dark: Taste Test

To that end, we can call it a fairly solid success. Stile Capri has an inviting pale-straw colour and a medium white head when poured, with the initial sips tasting distinctly of sweet lemon. Otherwise, the beer has a fairly subtle, light lager taste, with a not unpleasant savoury finishing note, which can probably be ascribed to the olive leaf. Overall, the light, sweet flavours of this beer make it a good choice for anyone looking for an appropriately flavoured yet straightforwardly drinkable beer for warmer days. Special, the original pale lager with added cultures of yeast and 5.0% ABV (in Czech: Kroužkovaný ležák).

Pilsner: Originating in Czechia, and popular across central Europe, pilsners are lightly straw coloured lagers, tending to come in at around 4 to 5%. Pilsners, on the whole, are a tad hoppier and more aromatic than your typical lager, and are characterised by a mild, pleasant bitterness. Smell: A beautiful bouquet of grassy floral hops, a slight graininess to the beer. The bitterness is slightly metallic but not in an unpleasant way. Lightly toasted malts and a hint of bread. It's got a pretty dense body for a lager which is malty at first with a touch of sweetness to it, almost like the kind of sweet bread dough you get from brioche. It's not sweet, but it's finely balanced with the malt to even out the flavour. The aftertaste lets the roast and smoky flavours play havoc in your mouth and it's a very fun aftertaste with a lot going on, making it a very enjoyable lager to taste as it's almost like you get a different flavour subtlety each sip. Budvar Dark: Bottle Notes That coat of arms is the one of Ceske Budejovice, the place where Budweiser Budvar is based and adds a wonderful detail to the label which, although elegant, is relatively ordinary. The brewery reported in 2015 that it had grown by 226% since 1991 and that its total sales volume had increased by 39% in the last ten years. Hall, Timothy (2003). "Pivo and Pohoda: The Social Conditions and Symbolism of Czech Beer Drinking". Anthropology of East Europe Review. 21: 109–126. To pour, it has a medium golden colour, a fine fizz and a large, fluffy white head. Brewed with Hallertau hops and the region’s famed Felsquellwasser spring water, Krombacher has a soft, smooth mouthfeel and an enjoyable mineral quality to its flavour. Less floral and sweet than its Czech counterparts, this pilsner is front-loaded with strong, bready malt flavours and leaves a lingering, pleasant bitterness. At 4.8%, Krombacher is stronger than most pilsners, perfect for anyone looking for a smooth-drinking beer that is robust in both its flavour and its ABV. Of course, all the above would be moot if the lager itself didn’t come up to scratch in the taste department. Thankfully, Freestar’s trio of European hops (Saaz, Perle and Hallertau, to be specific) give the lager a classic beer taste, with a nice mix of floral flavours, light bitterness and mild maltiness on the palate. While many low ABV lagers have strange or unpleasant aftertastes, Freestar has a clean finish which doesn’t linger. This is the famous Budweiser beer. We know of no brand produced by any other brewer which costs so much to brew and age. Our exclusive Beechwood Aging produces a taste, a smoothness and a drinkability you will find in no other beer at any price. The original beers from places like Budvar tend to date from hundreds of years ago, so they've had plenty of practice to make a solid beer.Made with the best quality Moravian malted barley, with the addition of caramalts, Munich malt and a touch of roasted malt, the brewery’s own artesian well water and of course, the whole-cone Saaz hops that give the signature character to its better-known sibling, Budvar Original. Fermenting this beer is much the same as the Original, with a leisurely 12 days required. It is then transferred to the cool horizontal lagering tanks for over six weeks to condition, develop and for the flavours to meld into the beer the brewers want it to be. a b c d Cunningham, Benjamin (2014-01-27). "Where a Budweiser Isn't Allowed to Be a Budweiser". Time. ISSN 0040-781X . Retrieved 2017-12-05. While a simple lager may not be the most exciting or innovative of beers, especially in the craft beer age, it's a fitting testament to how good a beer can be if you nail the basics.
