Description

When using a banana plug, make sure the speaker terminals are completely tightened before inserting the plug.

At the heart of the new Cambridge Audio AXR100D is a stereo integrated amplifier, which should have sufficient power reserves to operate even stand-alone speaker systems, in any case fine compact bookshelf speaker systems, effortlessly. Two times 100 Watts are available here at loudspeaker systems with an impedance of 8 Ohm. A typical living room is thus easily provided with adequate sound, and should even more bass be desired, an additional subwoofer can of course be controlled via a corresponding pre-amplifier output. Of course, there are still stereo receivers out there — you even buy a vintage stereo receiver— and they're the ideal solution for people who want to create a classic stereo hi-fi system. You get a stereo receiver, hook it up with a set of passive bookshelf speakers, and from there you can either stream audio to the receiver or hook up an analog source, like a turntable or CD player. The new Cambridge Audio AXR100D can also integrate digital sources directly, as it has an integrated D/A converter and both one coaxial and two optical S/PDIF interfaces are available. Like a Noah’s Ark of hi-fi, the AX range goes in two-by-two with the AXC25 and AXC35 CD players; AXA25 and AXA35 integrated amplifiers and AXR85 and AXR100 stereo receivers. The range takes design cues from the CX and Edge to deliver on Cambridge’s ambition of producing what it has dubbed as “Great British Sound”. The range intends to reflect the intention of the artists without taking anything away from the performance. If your turntable does have a built-in Phono stage or you are using an external version, you should connect to any of the other analogue inputs, as the 'Phono' input may produce an unwanted distortion. Use either the Volume Up/Down buttons on the remote control, or the Volume control on the front panel of your unit to change the volume level. The newly selected level will be indicated briefly on the front display. The tuner will stop at the first strong signal it finds. To move to another station simply press the reverse or forward ‘Skip/Scan’ button again. Cambridge Audio delivers yet another stunning effort for hi-fi enthusiasts of all types and budgets with the AXR85. Press and hold both the 4/9 and Menu buttons at the same time. The display will show the software revision and followed by either a letter ‘CU’ which represents North America or a letter ‘EU’ which represents Europe/Rest of the world.

If your loudspeakers are equipped with two sets of terminals, then it is possible to connect them in the bi-wire configuration. Once you have stripped the outer insulation of the cable and twisted the wires as indicated below, securely connect these to your banana plugs, remove the dust cap from the end of the speaker terminal and push the plug in as far as possible without applying excessive force. Isolate one of the ground paths with an isolation transformer, common mode choke, optical coupler, balanced circuitry, or frequency selective grounding. Two settings are possible which set the correct de-emphasis and tuning steps for either North America or Europe/Rest of the world. Press the Source button on the front of the unit corresponding to your desired source. Alternatively, you may use the appropriate button on the remote control. When two or more devices are connected to a common ground through different paths, ground path noise, or a ground loop can occur. A potential difference between these two grounds can cause unwanted noise voltage in the circuit paths. Currents flow through these multiple paths and develop voltages which can cause damage, noise or 50Hz/60Hz hum/buzz. IMPORTANT: Presets are stored separately for each waveband, meaning that there are 15 preset slots available for FM stations, and 15 preset slots available for AM stations. For radio enthusiasts, the most important difference between the new Cambridge Audio AXR100D and its “little brother” Cambridge Audio AXR100 without a “D” is the integrated DAB+ tuner in addition to FM.
