Description

Canon offers the stabilized RF 24-70mm f2.8 L IS USM (2400 EUR / 2300 USD) and the RF 28-70mm f2.0 L USM (3000 EUR/USD) which is unique in that it is the only full-frame 24-70mm zoom offering an f2.0 focal ratio. For that it is also much heavier than the rest at 1.4kg / 3.2lb. Aperture ring: No, just like the other lenses in this comparison, except for the Nikon which offers a multi-function control ring which can be assigned to operate the aperture or exposure compensation. [0] The graph below shows the chromatic aberration values at the three models’ widest focal lengths and widest apertures. All three exhibit lateral chromatic aberration of greater than 10 microns from around the 80% mark from the center of the image.

Above: Sony FE 24-70mm f2.8 GM at 24mm, f2.8; 100% crops from the FF-corner at f2.8 (left), f4.0 (middle), f5.6 (right) However, at 107.6 x 88 mm (4.2 x 3.49 in) and 1.02 kg (36 oz), it’s quite a bit bigger and heavier than the lens it replaces, which measures 95 x 89 mm (3.73 x 3.5 in) and weighs 0.79 kg (27.87 oz).APS-C (1.6x FOVCF) format camera owners will see an angle of view equivalent to 38.4-112mm on a full frame DSLR. Same story at 35mm: Not much differences in the APS-C image-circle, FF-corner much better from the Sony and Nikon. This is my first lens after my initial kit lens, of course it is a massive difference but that don't mean I have to kiss it's ass, there are negatives to this lens too.

Above: Nikon Z 24-70mm f2.8 S on a Nikon Z7 at 24mm, f2.8; 100% crop from center, APS-C-corner, FF-corner; large original available at f2.8, f4.0, f5.6, f8.0, f11 Although it is not weather sealed my GX20 is now only half water proof so to speak with this lens . Above: Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 Di III at 50mm, f2.8; 100% crop from center, APS-C-corner, FF-corner; large original available at f2.8, f4.0, f5.6, f8.0, f11 It's hard to find much to complain about with the Sigma 24–70mm F2.8, but we did find one issue on the bokeh front. So why would you buy the Leica 24-70mm f2.8 SL? You’re getting the best of many worlds. The autofocus is very reliable and useable for photojournalistic situations. The optics are great. And then there is the build quality. This is an incredibly well-balanced lens that isn’t front-heavy. Plus, it’s exceptionally weather-sealed. Build quality has become more and more of an issue for Gen Z and Millennials. Hopefully, the older generations who make the lenses and run the companies start to realize that. Thanks to excellent lens coatings, the Sigma 24–70 handles overall flare and loss of contrast quite well. Contrast is well maintained across the image and the lens largely avoids washed out areas of the image when shooting at bright sources of light. Image quality takes on a noticeable improvement at f/4 and again at f/5.6 where this lens is quite sharp across the frame.
