First, there is the card name. The card name sometimes has a “sweet” or “rotten” before it. The text box tells you what the card does when activated. The activation number, the card, is activated when the combined total of the dice is equal to the number rolled by any player and the boy, girl or animal symbol. These cards can do various things when activated, from giving you souls, stealing souls from other players, and even giving you the opportunity to receive new demon worshipper cards. There are also candle cards. These cards are special as they have 2 activation numbers, and also cannot be discarded or stolen from other players. Demon Cards First of all, this approach is entirely wrong because it places Hollywood spectacle-like expectations on your rituals. In most cases a demon will not appear in a full, visible form. Demons are spiritual beings, they don’t have a physical appearance. If they appear in some visible form it’s an illusion. That’s why it’s rare for magicians to see a demon like Lucifer in the same way when performing a ritual.

The best source for demons and certainly the most influential is The Lesser Key of Solomon, also known as Goetia and Lemegeton. This grimoire includes 72 demons such as Baal, Paimon, Zepar, Buer. Another great source is Grimorium Verum. Now, there are some demons that have divination powers. For example, Astaroth is said to provide answers of past, present and future events. So you’d expect to receive the answer during the ritual. In cases where the effects should be immediate you might receive a vision of sorts. In fact, the demon might speak through you as has happened to me multiple times. Alternatively, you might receive the answer in a dream. In case of divination, consider placing the demon’s sigil under your pillow to receive answers in your dreams. Well, Stranger Things is obviously pretty great for that early ’80s vibe. Freaks and Geeks is another awesome show set in that era. Really cool clothes and aesthetics. The BMX movie Rad is pure cheesy ’80s with the best BMX-based prom dance scene ever made. At the start of the game, players place one of their tokens on the school space and draw three cards. Players then move their tokens around the board by playing various cards from their hand, whilst avoiding leaving them on a stranger space. Should a player draw a stranger card, they can then abduct any tokens left on a stranger space - with that space becoming impassable for the rest of the game. Whichever player gets their tokens on the highest scoring home spaces by the end of the game wins. I personally really enjoyed the Qabalah, Qliphoth and Goetic Magic by Thomas Karlsson. This book explains the dark side of Qabalah, which is filled with demonic magic. It includes some excellent rituals for summoning demons like Lillith and it explains Goetic magic in great detail (demons of The Lesser Key of Solomon).
