Description

As added benefits, this Ender 5 enclosure traps in some of the noise for quieter printing, useful if you’re working in a small workshop or use your printer at home in a small apartment and aren’t ever too far from the printer, for example. Although the setup isn’t as straightforward as installing other Ender 5 Pro upgrades, the process is suitable for even those with little DIY 3D printer modification experience. A wood and plexiglass enclosure is another DIY option that shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge for seasoned makers with experience working with wood.

This bed strain relief model by grizzlyeric stands out for offering a friction fit instead of having to source a bolt. From experimentation, these factors alone can see a ~10degC change in temperature around the printer and on a long print, they will ruin the final printed part. An enclosure goes a significant way toward reducing this temperature variation. Most significantly, it will stop the draft every time the kids come to see how the printing of their new toy is coming along! Conservation of energy The Ender 5 has seen a lot of improvement between the Pro and S1 editions. It’s now faster, easier to level, less likely to jam and more sturdy to prevent vibrations from marring prints. It would be nice if the Ender 5 S1 also came with a more durable bed surface, but this is a part you can easily upgrade when needed. The company offers a range of add-ons, including a carbon air filter, temperature gauge, spool holder, vent system with fan/dryer hose adapter, interior LEDs, etc.

High Speed and High Stability

There will be no more loose wires and cables to worry about either, as they are all embedded within a nylon wire harness sleeve for safety and tidiness. User-friendly Features

Using the Evolution Rage saw, with its multi-material blade, gives a great 90-degree cut which makes bolting the frame together easier. However, I found the first few cuts a bit rough, and teeth were missing on the blade, so a new blade was installed, and the rest of the metal was cut down. Aluminium profile lengths are cut down to size. If you’re looking for a sturdier alternative to Creality’s tent-style enclosure above, 3D UpFitters’ Ender 3 kit is a solid option. The tent is lined with a heat-retaining aluminum film, while the outer layer features a flame retardant fabric to prevent fires. To reassure you, this is highly unlikely but knowing you’re safe provides peace of mind.

Are you looking for a more robust pre-made Ender 5 enclosure but don’t mind some DIY assembly and even 3D printing some parts to save costs? As the height of the enclosure was not set by the dimensions of the Alex drawers I increased the enclosure height to allow for the filament reel to be mounted on top of the printer. Starting with the usual test prints, 3DBenchy, and other test models, they all rattled off the build plate at speed. The printer's solid build minimizes shake and vibration, which is apparent in the quality of the prints. The model's overall appearance at all default settings is excellent and shows a fine filament extrusion. At the finer layer heights, the layers are visible but show how good this printer is. I’d recommend most casual users add a new build plate for their first upgrade. The Creality flexible PEI build plate has made my prints more consistent, with better first-layer adhesion and scraper-free removal. One of the most popular and long-running options is to transform furniture into an Ender 5 enclosure.

Without one more challenging filament types are likely to warp due to the open-air design of the Ender 5 Pro.

It keeps a nice and even temperature when fully closed, I haven't tried printing ABS with it but it's certainly a good way to help the printing. D_jespersen, a prolific Ender 5 Thingiverse contributor, has come up with a simple but elegant solution that you can more or less 3D print yourself. For printer access, you can either remove a section of the sheet as needed or cut out a door and attach velcro dots to the frame to keep it closed during printing. A large front-facing velcro panel allows you to view and access the printer, while dual side-mounted zippers see the front and cover open up completely for even easier access to the printer. Please keep in mind that this is re-remixed, so I had to model based on stl files. It might not be waterproof, but it printed fine for me.
