Each model is made up of a small number of large parts, so there’s nothing too fiddly with these guys. Their larger-than-average size makes them quite tactile. Even the badges attached to their left shoulders aren’t too difficult to glue on. But what if everyone at the table got to play as Space Marines? Well, then Games Workshop would be able to sell a lot more Space Marines, and the good people of the world would be able to buy more Space Marines, and so on, and so forth, feeding forever into the grim, dark capitalist ouroboros that keeps the polystyrene forges lit in Nottingham. Featuring 60 and 20 individual weapons sets respectively, it’s a great way to add immediate variety and strategic choice to the 40 marines you have in the box. The 5 man squads consist of 4 Terminators and 1 Terminator Sergeant. The Terminators are armed with a Combi-Bolter and a Power Fist which can be exchanged individually for a Heavy Flamer and a Chainfist respectively or collectively for two Lightning Claws. As far as the rest of the model goes, it’s pretty much up to you. The build guide will make a number of suggestions as to which heads, arms and bodies to use with each Terminator, but you don’t need to follow this if you don’t want to. MKVI Legion Tactical Marines Sprue

The titanic Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness boxed set contains a treasure trove of content, from a massive rulebook detailing the setting and stories of the Horus Heresy, as well as gorgeous photography and art, and all the core rules you need to play the game. The box also contains 54 Citadel miniatures – including a massive Spartan Assault Tank and a host of MKVI ‘Corvus Armour’ Tactical Marines – allowing you to build two opposing forces for out-of-the-box play, or construct a huge Legion force all your own. Alongside all of this, you’ll get all the game accessories and rules reference materials you need to immerse yourself in the worlds of the Age of Darkness.

It is, however, suggested that even experienced players read the full rule set so they don’t make any rash assumptions about changes made or not made. The main difference between this rule set and its predecessor is the introduction of Reaction Phases. These can occur in the Movement Phase, the Firing Phase and the Assault Phase. This changes the traditional procedure of Player 1 does all their actions then Player 2 does all theirs. This interactive ability means the non-phasing player may move towards or away from another unit they see. It can return fire or evade fire aginst a firing unit and it can conduct overwatch fire or “Hold the Line” against a charging unit. All this adds up to a more immersive session as the turns progress. The pintle mounted weapon can be: twin-linked bolter, combi-weapon, heavy bolter or flamer, multi-melta or a havoc launcher. A Space Marine isn’t complete with a set of big pauldrons – they’re practically naked without them. Complete your loadout with this set of 10 MKIII Shoulder Pads, marked with the Ultramarines logo. Thousand Sons MKIII Shoulder Pads This set is ideal if you want to launch into classic (or is that pre-classic?) Space Marine v Space Marine action dividing your forces into heretic or loyalist Legions. This is civil war, no messing with alien races here. You have 40 Marines to split typically into two legions, a Praetor for each side and 10 Terminators and a Dreadnought to balance agaainst a newly upgraded and enlarged Spartan Assault Tank. Legions Assembled (Assembly Required)

With 40 MKVI Legion Tactical Marines in the box, you’ll spend the majority of your time building these little guys. In all, though, this is a stunning book. It feels very special – and extremely official. No matter your reason for buying the Age of Darkness set, there will be something in this book you can enjoy. Warhammer: The Horus Heresy Reference Sheets The new Praetor models are superb. It’s all pretty spectacular, to be honest. However, the Praetors do stand-out – two particularly large, shiny diamonds amidst a pile of smaller (but still pretty shiny) diamonds. Here’s the strategy: push the tacticals up in the rhinos, dump them on objectives, and shoot them at stuff you want to die. Follow up that with volleys from your heavy support squads, benefiting from that +1 to hit as you do. It won’t apply to frag missiles, but it will to krak. Anything that won’t fold from your firepower gets a Spartan and then ten terminators to the face. White Dwarf 477 has an aggressive appetiser for anyone looking forward to the upcoming Codex: World Eaters. This XII Legion special features lore, hobby tips, and a gore-soaked showcase, as well as interim rules for using these close-combat monsters in games of Warhammer 40,000 – ideal for whetting your bloodlust ahead of their eventual release.Weighing in at a higher value than my kitchen scales can read (they’re only cheap), this beastly box is by far the biggest one we’ve seen from Games Workshop in recent years. The contemptor is already BS5, so it doesn’t benefit as much from the legion trait. If you expect to be fighting against Night Lords a lot it could be worth building with the autocannon to deal with night fighting, but otherwise build it to fill in missing roles. Melta and Fist or Lascannon and Fist are probably your best choice, filling it in as some dedicated anti-tank. This box can be viewed as either a 2-player Starter Set – or just as a complete starter army for one player. Even better that all of these units can easily be migrated into an existing 40k force. Age of Darkness Release Date I particularly like how in-keeping with the idea of the evolution of the Dreadnought this model is. The 80s sci-fi echo in its design gives the sense model is a progenitor, whilst not being so removed from the Warhammer 40,000 Dreadnoughts of the last ten years to seem like a different unit. It’s like a walking piece of archaeology, like putting a steam locomotive with a neutrino bomb strapped to it next to a Primaris bullet train.

The Horus Heresy has only really been a Forge World thing until now. With only a couple of plastic boxed-games releases, the range of resin miniatures never had the same appeal as the plastic Warhammer Fantasy/Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000 ranges (because it’s comparatively a nightmare to build). But now, with a new range of plastic miniatures, times are changing. The Praetors are based on Lieutenants, where they could also be valued higher in line with captains. and the Space Marines themselves do not have a comparable box of 20 models (they are confirmed to be coming in boxes of 20) to compare to.
