Grisham has spent the last few years stretching his creative muscles through a number of genres: his usual legal thrillers ( The Summons A master at the art of deft characterisation and the skilful delivery of hair-raising crescendos' – Irish Independent Daring to report the true horrors of the crime, Willie makes as many friends as enemies in Clanton, and over the next decade he sometimes wonders how he got there in the first place. But he can never escape the crime that shattered his innocence or the criminal whose evil left an indelible stain. Because as the ghosts of the South’s past gather around Willie, as tension swirls around Clanton, men and women who served on a jury nine years ago are starting to die one by one—as a killer exacts the ultimate revenge.

Danny Padgitt - a member of the notorious Padgitt family. He rapes and murders Rhoda Kassellaw but is given parole after only nine years in prison. Similar to the last Grisham book I read, I kept waiting for the drama or excitement but it didn't really happen and I felt let down by the ending. That said, I still had to read to the end which is Grisham's specialty; drawing a reader in so they have to know what happens. An architect, father, and the single initial “not guilty” vote. The 8th Juror argues that the men should take their time in coming to a verdict. He slowly and painstakingly examines the evidence and testimony to decide if there are grounds for a conviction. The 8th Juror is patient and compassionate, and he often humanizes the defendant in the face of others’ rash, biased judgements.

John Grisham is an American novelist who is one of only three authors to sell 2 million copies on a first printing alongside J.K Rowling and Tom Clancy. Not really a courtroom drama or legal thriller; instead this novel focuses on the media in a small town in Mississippi. My bad. My really, really bad because I have a double of this one - the other is a print version in Dutch - sitting on my foreign languages shelf to read! It was only the pic of the Dutch cover in the "other editions " row that clued me in. If I'd known I had a double, I'd have held off with the German audio book until I'd read the Dutch print book, so as not to spoil the story. Doh! However, many more of John Grisham’s books began, and have remained, as standalones. All of these books feature Grisham’s compelling characters and high-stakes suspense, which makes any of them a great John Grisham book to read first.

He wrote his first book, A Time to Kill, following inspiration from an actual court case. His second novel, The Firm, got him into the spotlight and made him consider a career as an author. The realistic portrayal of court proceedings alongside the riveting cases contributed to his success.

She kept to herself. The old ladies in Beech Hill considered her a model widow, staying home, looking sad, limiting her social appearances to an occasional visit to church. She should attend more regularly, they whispered.

To achieve this he, not only, reports on all and every newsworthy, or otherwise, story but he searches out any local citizen who might have a story worth telling. Before long the big event in most peoples lives becomes the next edition of the local newspaper. This experimentation seems to have imbued his writing with a new strength, giving exuberant life to this compassionate, compulsively readable story of a young man's growth from callowness to something approaching wisdom. Willie Traynor, 23 and a college dropout, is working as a reporter on a small-town newspaper, the Ford County Times Before becoming an author, he was a master of his own legal thrillers by working as a criminal defense attorney. This gave him an intimate understanding of the courts which shines through in his writing. He wanted to see her eyes, those beautiful eyes he’d seen in the clubs. And the long hair. He’d bought her drinks and danced with her twice, and when he’d finally made a move she had stiff-armed him. Try these moves, baby, he mumbled just loud enough for her to hear. Grisham has experienced much success with the silver screen. More than eight of the novels he has written have been adapted into films and performed well at the box office. This includes The Firm, which became a film in 1993, and was later made into a TV series. The twelve members of the jury at the center of an enormous lawsuit against a giant tobacco company have been investigated and harassed by lawyers and consultants intent on a verdict. The civil trial is sure to be the most explosive of the century with everyone waiting to hear their decision. But the jury has a leader, and he will be the one who decides the verdict. The following year in 1994 saw the adaptation of one more John Grisham novel: The Client. Once again it was another star-studded cast with Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones. Brad Renfro was cast as the young main character, Mark Sway, because Grisham had final casting approval and insisted the actor hail from near Memphis.

Willie uses his newspaper to crusade -- aptly -- because it's the right thing to do. Also because he knows how to make it lucrative. For his great writing, Grisham has been honored with several awards, including the Distinguished Author Award named after Peggy V. Helmerich, the Galaxy British Book lifetime achievement award, the legal fiction award from Harper Lee, and the USC Scripter award. Nevertheless, Grisham’s writing has not solely focused on crafting novels for adult audiences. He has also written a series of legal thrillers geared at children and pre-teens. Inside John Grisham Novels: A broker. The 4th Juror is logical and persuaded by reason. At the same time, he harbors classist views of the defendant, and he believes the boy more likely to be guilty because he is poor. Eventually, he is persuaded by facts to vote for an acquittal. Two of the books Grisham is most well-known for also happen to be the very first two novels he ever released; The Firm and Time to Kill. The Firm, released in 1991, has sold more than seven million copies. It is the second novel that he wrote and is the gripping tale about a young man named Mitchell V. McDeere who, fresh out of law school, decides to work at a Memphis law firm, appeased by their generous offer of a high salary, new BMW, and nice house with low interest mortgage. The future of the paper looked grim until a young mother was brutally raped and murdered by a member of the notorious Padgitt family. Willie Traynor reported all the gruesome details, and his newspaper began to prosper.
