According to Oopsy Bear in the Adventures in Care-a-Lot episode " Oopsy the Hero", Tenderheart is supposed to be a great soccer player, though this is never actually exhibited in any episode.

Beginning with the early 2000's franchise re-launch, Funshine was given a more outgoing, athletic personality, but still retains the overall fun-loving spirit of the original. This thrill-seeking bear lives to seize each day, whether through extreme sports or games, and can't stand being cooped up for even a moment. In the Adventures in Care-a-Lot series, they are depicted wearing a red baseball cap as well as a masculine voice. In this series, they lost their specialty for telling jokes, and instead focus whole-heartedly on having fun. Tenderheart is one of the main characters in the Care Bears: Welcome to Care-a-Lot television series. In this series, Tenderheart is once again the leader of the Care Bears, and now has a niece, Wonderheart Bear, who lives with him. When Funshine finds out that his playmate, a boy named Aiden, rides a wheelchair, he is certain that he won't be any fun at all. The second Care Bear feature film tells the story of how the Care Bear Family, including Tenderheart, first arrived in Care-a-Lot after they escaped and captured by the evil Dark Heart. When the villain later propositions a girl named Christy into helping him finally capture his fuzzy prey once and for all, Tenderheart is among the few remaining members not to be imprisoned and must formulate a plan along with two children named John and Dawn to rescue his friends. They first appear in The Great Race, where Funshine is one of the contestants during the annual Care-a-Lot Obstacle Race to compete to be king or queen for a day. When Mr. Beastly rigs the drawing to become a participant himself, he begins to cheat their way through the whole competition, with Funshine falling into a pit trap. In Dare Bears, Funshine later develops a rivalry with Tenderheart Bear on two separate occasions. First, after trying Grumpy's new bouncy boots invention, the two try to out-dare each other to do progressively more dangerous things, with one unwilling to concede to the other that they're scared. In The Bravest of the Brave, Brave Heart's fear of the dark is exposed when he, several Care Bears, and a boy named Adam are trapped in an amusement park haunted house by Dr. Fright, who plans to destroy them all so he can get on No Heart's good side. Convincing himself to face his fear Brave Heart is able to help the others escape. Between November 1985 and January 1989, the Care Bears appeared in a 20-issue comic book series published by Marvel's Star Comics; the books were drawn by DC Comics artist, Howard Post. [49] Issue #13 (from November 13, 1986) featured a crossover with another American Greetings property, the Madballs. [50]

Netflix commissioned a continuation of the series, after the rebranding of The Hub as Discovery Family on October 13, 2014. The continuation, titled Care Bears & Cousins, had its first season released on November 6, 2015, continuing the story of the cast of Welcome to Care-a-Lot and introduces four new series regulars, the titular cousins Brave Heart Lion, Bright Heart Raccoon, Lotsa Heart Elephant and Cozy Heart Penguin. The second season of Care Bears & Cousins was released on Netflix on February 5, 2016. Brave Heart is one of the most frequent characters in Nelvana's The Care Bears Family and has made many appearances throughout the series. In Care-Ful Bear, when Share Bear gets into a minor accident, they become determined to force safety measures at the expense of everyone's fun, even temporarily re-naming themself "Careful Bear".
