She smiles compassionately. “You need a good, hot meal. You need a shower. You’ll feel better then.” And no girl wants to be called by the wrong name when she’s on her knees giving you head in the men’s room. So, just to be safe, I went with baby. Oh, that’s just wrong!” She inhales sharply, and, judging by the stink that joins the putrid pizza aroma, I’m thinking she just opened a three-day-old ice cream container that wasn’t as empty as I’d thought. Drew.” She shakes my shoulders gently. I give in and sit up, rubbing the exhaustion from my eyes as I do. “Talk to me,” she begs. “What’s going on? What happened?”

I hear further shuffling of beer bottles and garbage, and I know she’s starting to straighten the mess up. I’m not the only neat freak in my family. When I met Dee I knew right away that she was special. When she met me, she thought I was anything but special--I was exactly like every other guy who’d screwed her over and let her down. It took some time to convince her otherwise, but turns out I can make a convincing argument when sex is at stake. You go take a long, hot shower. I’ll clean up this disaster. Then, we’re going out. The three of us.” I don’t answer her. I don’t have the energy. I just leave the door open and fall face first onto my couch. It’s soft and warm, but firm. I feel like a lot of younger Wattpad authors are projecting - they wish they could be doing those things, so they create a (same-aged) version of themselves as a heroine who does all those things. Mary Sue anyone? Look, I was a teenage girl once. I get it. You want to be older than you are. You want to be a part of a world that looks so exciting. You insist that you're more mature than you are. Maybe you are mature. Are you adult-biker-hookup mature? Are you living-on-your-own-without parents-mature? You are not, I'm telling you (that was a fever dream for sure). And I'm not saying that the author is a teenager, although it's possible she wrote or thought the story up while a teenager. But that's how it reads. Make the characters a few years older. There's a world of difference between an 18-year-old high school senior and a 22-year-old college student. The college student is still immature, but they'recloser to being on their own and living an adult life and it shows in the choices that are legitimately available to them.

It felt so unfinished. I want answers. Does Sophia ever find out why Kyle did what he did? Why did Kayla? What happens to Bax and where does Ryan go? Does she ever get to go home? Give me more of her and Josh together. GIVE ME SMUT. I know I know that not every book is smutty or needs smut. But this has the perfect line up. I can’t even say it’s closed door. We don’t even get that. It’s just tension build up and then nothing. It’s just ends. They get interrupted or the subject gets changed and nothing ever happens. I know what you’re thinking—what the hell did you do this time? Relax. Let’s not judge, or call for my castration, until you've heard the whole story.

I sigh deeply and force myself to get up from the couch. The walk to the door takes time; each step of my stiff, aching legs is an effort. Furthermore, the ending was abrupt and left me feeling feeling like I shouldn’t have bothered. There needed to be more explanations for the choices made. It seemed as though the author attempted a stylistic choice with the sudden conclusion, but it did not fit well with the rest of the story. It felt incomplete. Characters have tattoos then they don't, then they do. She knows he's in an mc then she doesn't then his world "isn't as dark" as Bax's then it's much darker. Josh hears Kayla say she (Soph) isn't pregnant then keeps acting like he needs to raise a baby. And then it all ends. Nobody ever actually resolves anything, Soph and Josh apparently become telepathic because they don't have to actually say they want to be together. It was just a mess. And why did Kyle have to end up being such a d-bag?Also, she got a boob job? Before she turned 18 (or just the re about), before she graduated from high school, because she thought she wasn't developed enough? That's...unusual. Again, all you have to do is make your characters a tiny bit older and it makes more sense. The road to this day wasn’t all rainbows and boners. There were mistakes and misunderstandings worthy of a Greek tragedy. But Kate and I made it through with our inexhaustible lust, boundless admiration, and everlasting love for one another intact. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy’s on right now. I’ve watched it three times today, but I haven’t laughed yet. Not once. Maybe the fourth time’s the charm, huh?
