He’s also known for having a particular obsession with “Tetris” tile laying games such as Patchwork and Cottage Garden. So the next bright idea is to combine the two into one giant beast of a game, where not only do you have to contend with resource management and feeding your people, but you also more grids than you can handle for laying tiles down in the most efficient way possible. You are the head of a respected but troubled family estate in mid-19th century Victorian England. After several lean decades, family fortunes are looking up! Your goal is to improve your estate so as to be in better standing with the truly influential families in Derbyshire. In much the same way, another title that's turning heads is Apiary. Because this is a game from the publisher of Wingspan about space bees, that's probably not surprising.

There are not too many games on the market right now that are strictly for one player. While board gaming will always be a social form of entertainment, it’s nice to have options when you just can’t get people together. Obsession The Board Game. To be honest, the name is pretty appealing if you ask me – it’s a game I see myself being obsessed with personally. Maybe that’s what they was aiming for? I love the fact that some guests are branded as “gossips” and can be used to damage another families reputation but some of them are that unsavoury that you also damage your own reputation for simply being associated with the “gossip”. The grand monuments provide an ongoing reputation bonus, as you would imagine if you had them within your estate. You can build a Lionheart suite within your stately home and invite a prestigious guest to said suite and they are waited on hand and foot by the butler of the house. Their thanks is in the form of double rewards. Everything about Obsession has been meticulously thought out every single detail fits beautifully together like a gracious Victorian puzzle. When calculating the scores you can compare your different games and successes in each Level. The higher the level, the more difficult it will be for you to get a high score.

Final Score: 4 Stars – You’d be hard pressed to find a better solo game on the market. For what it is, it works fantastically.

Blending worker and tile-placement game elements with intriguing puzzle aspects, A Feast for Odin provides an unforgettable experience. With an entire action board’s worth of possibilities each round, every new game presents unique challenges, opportunities, and paths to victory. Take command of your Vikings, sail into the unknown, and write your own saga in A Feast for Odin! The fight does not end automatically. You can use all remaining special abilities. Only if you want to end the fight, you compare your fighting points with the hazard value and finally finish the fight. You're expecting something for kids: Despite being based on the iconic, family-friendly movies of our childhoods, Villainous is actually a competitive strategy game with oodles of depth. It's not a good fit for children as a result, and won't jive with family-members who are expecting something very casual either. Yes, there's a learning curve. Its scenarios aren't always the most well-balanced either, and a few mission rules could be clearer. But on the whole, you'll have enough fun that those niggles won't matter. This is perfect for game night with your friends. Not that this is only for kids, of course. It'll be a hit with all ages, and is a great warm-up game before moving on to something with more depth.Even if you’re able to conquer all that, I don’t envy you if you then have to teach this game to new players, it is a nightmare and casual gamers need not apply without warning. Accept for your first few games that the setup and rules teaching is going to take you a long time on top of the three hour expected play time.

For the life points you pay in this manner you can destroy played fighting cards and remove them from the game. You need one life point for one of the starting or knowledge cards . It's not overly aggressive, either. Unlike so many entries on this list, there's less emphasis on screwing each other over. Although it's frustrating when a rival claims a route you were going for, there's usually an alternative with which you can salvage all that time and effort. As such, this is an option we're more than happy to break out if things can get heated on game night. Like our review mentions, it's "the perfect option for newcomers and tabletop veterans alike." Once you’ve conquered the wall of cardboard from a physical perspective, you can then test your mind by delving into the three rule books………THREE?!?! Yes, you’ve got a basic rule book, then a more detail rules reference booklet and finally an Almanac which explains why various things are in the game and their places in Viking history. This is all well and good and works from a theme perspective, but how many of you owners of the game have actually bothered to read this book in full? Or let new players read it in advance of teaching the game? You’ll do exactly what I and many others did and that’s gun for the main rules.
