Pioneer DJ surprised us with the DDJ-FLX6 controller for Rekordbox (here’s our DDJ-FLX6 review). We were expecting the company to launch a “DDJ-600”, to fit in between the two-channel consumer DDJ-400 and the two-channel pro DDJ-800. Instead, we got the DDJ-FLX6. Sure, it has four channels, but it also is clearly aimed at a very different market segment. The layout of the controls on the DDJ-FLX6 is similar to that on the club-standard CDJ + DJM setup, so you can perform intuitively. However, this DJ controller introduces a fresh look, with a dark gray matte finish and redesigned jog wheels that will make your setup stand out. AlphaTheta Corporation has today announced the release of the new DDJ-FLX6-W from its Pioneer DJ brand. This limited-edition version of the popular DJ controller for rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro comes in a high-quality matte white finish, bringing an eye-catching look to any event, livestream, or home setup. Pitch bending and scratching feel natural on the DDJ-FLX6 thanks to the large jog wheels, which are the same size as those on the flagship CDJ-3000 multi player. Each one features an On Jog Display too, so you can keep an eye on the playhead position.

Prefer for me to show you this? If you’re considering the new DDJ-FLX6-GT, this video details everything you need to know to make the right decision. It still works best with Rekordbox– Despite all the talk about “flexibility”, this is still primarily a Rekordbox DJ controller, and some of the features – Merge FX, Jog Cutter, Sample Scratch – don’t work as well or at all with other platforms With full size jog wheels, which are the same size as the flagship CDJ-3000, as well as a four-channel mixer - the first thing you’ll notice about the DDJ-FLX6 is that it feels like a step up from the entry level Pioneer DJ kit. While there’s no jog wheel adjustment, like that offered by the DDJ-800 and DDJ-1000, the tension setting feels just right – especially if you’re upgrading from the smaller DDJ controllers. Before connecting the Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX6, ensure you have the latest version of Serato installed on your computer, available here .The main highlight of the FLX-6 is undoubtedly its 7-inch capacitive jog wheels. Despite being capacitive, they act very similar to Pioneer DJ’s infamous CDJ jogs: weighted, noisy, and tactile. The center on-jog displays are a nice touch as well, displaying needle position as well as other info like slip mode. The mixer, effects, & fader Finally, the TRS microphone input with dedicated volume control is found on the rear of the controller. It is worth noting that the microphones audio is not sent to the computer over USB, meaning you won’t hear it in recordings or streams.

The Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX6 is a dual software platform, four channel DJ controller designed to simplify genre hopping transitions for DJs who are ready to upgrade from the DDJ-200, DDJ-400 or DDJ-SB3. It is also undeniably popular, if nothing else for its excellent jogs – plus we do applaud Pioneer’s direction towards making the DDJ-FLX6 work with all software. We look forward to more controllers that “work with everything” moving forward, so how about officially announcing the DDJ-FLX4 for Traktor, Pioneer DJ? Pitch bending and scratching feel natural on the DDJ-FLX6-GT thanks to the large jog wheels, which are the same size as those on the flagship CDJ-3000 multi player. Each one features and On Jog Display* too, so you can keep an eye on the playhead position, and the new rubberized finish on the outer ring gives you a much better feeling – especially when pitch bend. It doesn’t have the mobile-friendly features of the new DDJ-FLX4– While we suspect that when the Rekordbox for iOS & Android DJ app is launched in early 2023, there will be a way to get it working with the FLX6, but it won’t be as easy as with the DDJ-FLX4 that’s just been announced. That’s because the FLX-4 has USB-C connectivity and a USB-C charging port, neither of which are on the DDJ-FLX6-GT, sadlyTo use the DDJ-FLX6-GT with VirtualDJ and TRAKTOR PRO 3, you’ll need to buy a license key or subscription for the latest version of the software. To use TRAKTOR PRO 3 import the mapping file (TSI file). Updated design with a graphite color brings a sophisticated look There are eight Merge FX pattern presets to choose from (four if you use Serato DJ Pro) and you can use your own samples. If you’re DJing with rekordbox, you’ll find everything is customizable. Choose from 41 types of effects within the four categories that make up one Merge FX (Build FX, Build Sample, Release FX, and Drop Sample) and combine them to create more than 9,000 different patterns. You can save eight of your own patterns and use the FX Select button on the unit to call them up whenever you want to perform a unique mix. Before connecting the DDJ FLX6, ensure you have the latest version of Djay installed from the App Store . The USB-B port on the rear of the DDJ-FLX6 connects the controller and powers it. Using this supplied cable to connect iOS devices does require adaptors which we will link below. In this video, DJ Holland explains how to get started performing your first mix on Algoriddim DJAY. Learn how to stream music and perform your first mix. Although this video doesn’t use a DDJ-FLX6, the application’s basic navigation and managing the library inside DJAY still applies.

The big jog wheels on the DDJ-FLX6-GT, are the same size as those on the top-of-the-line CDJ-3000, which make pitch bending and scratching feel natural. Each one also has an "On Jog Display" so you can see where the playhead is, and the new rubberised finish on the outer ring provides a much better feel, especially when pitch bending. Merge FX Feature Pioneer DJ’s DDJ-FLX6 is a bedroom-oriented controller focused on performance features. With full-sized jogs, four channels, and a plethora of new (albeit slightly confusing) performance features, the FLX6 is very enticing for hobbyist DJs who want features without breaking the bank. The unit’s Serato and Rekordbox compatibility is also quite exciting. The controller gives any DJ an edge when it comes to performing, and is a great way to keep the crowd's attention and take them on a journey they will not forget. It has incredible versatility with four available channels and new features and has easy plug-in-and-play functionality. Other features The Pioneer DJ DDJ FLX6 is a four-channel controller for those wanting to take their first steps into the world of DJ’ing. Compatible with Rekordbox, Serato DJ Pro, Djay and Virtual DJ, the FLX6 is compatible with computers and iOS devices. In this beginners guide, we are going to show you how to set up the DDJ FLX6 on all platforms, to get you mixing as soon as possible! The jog-wheels on the FLX6 are the same size as those on the CDJ-3000 multi-player. Scratching and pitch bending feels natural, and the inclusion of on jog display ensures vital information can be seen at a glance. Sample Scratch - the all-new pad mode The FLX6’s design has compromised some of the units performance features. The controller, although impressive in size still retains small pitch faders. Similar to those found on the DDJ 200 and DDJ 400 units.

It has also been announced as working with Virtual DJ– This is good news, but then, it always did work with Virtual DJ in its previous DDJ-FLX6 incarnation. Maybe this is just exactly the same mapping made official and announced by Pioneer DJ, or maybe there are improvements (we’ll no doubt find out soon enough) There are 8 Merge FX pattern presets to choose from (4 if you use VirtualDJ, TRAKTOR PRO 3, or Serato DJ Pro) and you can use your own samples. If you’re DJing with rekordbox, you’ll find everything is customizable. Choose from 41 types of effects within the 4 categories that make up a Merge FX (Build FX, Build Sample, Release FX, and Drop Sample) and combine them to create more than 9,000 different patterns. You can save 8 of your own patterns and use the FX Select button on the unit to call them up whenever you want to perform a unique mix. Originally codenamed DDJ-600 internally at Pioneer DJ, the Flex - as it’s now known – has been developed to enable complex transitions between genres for DJs whose musical taste, or that of the dancefloor, is fluid. The DDJ-FLX6 has two really powerful features to help DJs jump from one BPM range to another Merge FX and the Jog Cutter. Merge FX Pitch bending and scratching feels natural thanks to the large jog wheels, which are the same size as those on the flagship CDJ-3000 multi player. Noticed that the DDJ-FLX6 has a fresh look? It’s the first Pioneer DJ unit released in a new dark gray matte finish, and its jog wheels have a unique design to complement the aesthetics. Watch the introduction video or find out more about the new DJ controller. If rekordbox is used to manage the music software, there are eight Merge FX pattern presets. If Serato DJ Pro is used, there are only four, and everything can be changed. One Merge FX comprises of four groups: Build FX, Release FX, Build Sample, and Drop Sample. Each of these groups has 41 different effects that can be combined to make more than 9,000 different patterns. Also, the user can save up to eight of their own patterns, which they can access with the FX Select button when needed. New Jog Cutter Feature Serato users access Scratch Bank with this pad mode. Sample Scratch relies on Rekordbox’s usual sample bank and sadly offers less options than Serato’s Scratch bank. This however, can easily be improved with future software updates. New Design
