He heard the stealthy rustle as the creature moved towards the shelter: towards his father. He waited in rigid silence as it passed. Coward! he shouted inside his head. You let it go without even trying to save Fa! He tried to be practical: to be a man instead of a boy. ‘I’ve still got some yarrow leaves,’ he said, fumbling for his medicine pouch with his free hand. ‘Maybe that’ll stop the-’ ny scarlet veins, and at the centers, the fathomless dark. ‘What do you meant’ he whispered. ‘What-’

Remember. When you’re hunting, look behind you. I - always tell you.’ He forced a smile. ‘You always - forget. Look behind you. Yes? Ron Rash is renowned for his writing about Appalachia, but his latest book, The Caretaker, begins ...

El Bosque tenía todo lo que uno podía desear. Hasta entonces nunca se había dado cuenta de lo mucho que lo apreciaba.” The first book in Michelle Paver's hugely popular Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series, Wolf Brother is a gripping and original adventure story. Magical, imaginative, vividly-told and rich in detail, young readers will find Torak's tale completely engrossing. So I've got to find a mountiain that nobody's ever seen. And work out the answer to a riddle that nobody's ever solved. And kill a bear that nobody can fight." Words cannot begin to describe how heart-wrenching this book is! When I found out what ‘The Listener gives his heart’s blood to the Mountain…’ meant, I cried and I will do so when I finish all of the books.

Wolf Brother is a 2004 young adult novel by British writer Michelle Paver. The first installment in Paver’s Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series, Wolf Brother is set in the Stone Age. It follows twelve-year-old Torak and his wolf-cub companion on their quest to fulfill the dying wish of Torak’s father. This series is the one that got me reading and I absolutely LOVE it! If you don’t read books then this won’t let you stop reading them! It opens up your eyes to a whole new world and i guarantee that you will never think of a book the same way again! Beside him, his father moaned. Slowly he opened his eyes and looked at his son without recognition. To the east, the sky was wolf grey. Thunder growled. In the stormy light, the trees were a brilliant green. Rain in the mountains, thought Torak numbly. Watch out for flash floods. But what kind of bear stalks men -then vanishes without making the kill? What kind of bear plays with its prey?A great read. Wonderful action, exciting book. My 11-year old is reading this for school. Teacher seems a bit off in his intepretation. Wants her to relate the story to modern day. For example, bear represents mankind. Anyone have a similar ideas or thoughts about what the characters could mean to our 21st century life? Listen to me,’ hissed his father. ‘A bear -any bear -is the strongest hunter in the Forest. You know that. But this bear - much stronger.’ Nearly at their destination, Renn and Torak are recaptured by the Ravens. Hord argues that he should take Torak to the Mountain and sacrifice him there, to appease the World Spirit. Fin-Kedinn however releases Torak, believing him to be the one who should go to the Mountain. Fin-Kedinn also reveals that Torak's Fa was killed because he was the foremost enemy of a group of rogue mages, the Soul Eaters, who turned to evil in their determination to rule the clans. Fin-Keddin also tells Torak that it is his destiny to one day face down and destroy the Soul Eaters. Think, Torak! When the red eye is highest in the night sky, that’s when demons are strongest. You know this. That’s when the bear will be - invincible.’ He fought for breath. In the firelight, Torak saw the pulse beating in his throat. So faint: as if it might stop at any moment. ‘I need you - to swear something,’ said Fa.
