Description

In the scathing book, the iCarly star details the abuse she endured from her late mother, who died from breast cancer in 2013.

If you don’t deal with the trauma and end up replicating it, then there’s the potential that it will manifest in your romantic relationships and friendships, and then it will come out in your relationships with your children. McCurdy asks readers a question: When and how does one rid oneself of the cage created by others and walk freely? These sorts of auditions were usually bread and butter for a child star like herself: Jenette was petite and cute, with big blue eyes that could well up with fat, blinking tears on cue. Some are more personal, some more academic, but an essential read for anyone interested in gender studies, writing in Ireland and creative endeavour. It's a good read and I identified most with her struggles as a teenager, when it comes to identity and body image, which came at around the quarter or half way mark, so for me the book picked up the pace there.

An] explosive debut…insightful and incisive, heartbreaking and raw, McCurdy’s narrative reveals a strong woman who triumphs over unimaginable pressure to emerge whole on the other side. The heart attack rate for children who have had a traumatic early years environment is 400x that compared to the general public. What could be a more tempting gift than a compendium of David Sedaris's best stories, selected by the author himself? That was her voice, not mine, but it took a long time to get to a place where I could identify that I was, and am, glad that she died.Reading this memoir leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth after we enjoyed her performances and shows not having a clue about what this beautiful but broken girl was going through at the hands of her own mother. Jennette McCurdy is the queen of lemonade from lemons, using her trauma to weave a painfully funny story that also illuminates the commodification of teenage girls in America. One thing I did appreciate with this book was the dedication to her brothers – they all grew up together, were all witnesses and victims, and I see this dedication as a nod of their support in publishing her memoir. And this book made me contemplate further on something that was floating around my head weeks ago, months ago, which didn't really find an outlet or finished-formulation.

While Jennette knows her attitude to food is deeply unhealthy, she struggles to recover, and finds herself constantly relapsing. In an interview with Good Morning America on Wednesday, McCurdy addressed the memoir’s divisive title and said she understands why the title has received some backlash.

I'm Glad My Mom Died is furious, sad, brave, knowing, honest, heart-wrenching, and utterly compelling.

I'm sure her inner child is now beaming, finally choosing writing over acting, something she's wanted for so very long, and finally has the freedom to pursue.I learnt a bit about the inner workings of agencies, academies, and acting classes, introductory techniques, at least for children, although it's probably quite similar to what adults are taught to do, i. I read mainly Mysteries and Thrillers, with over half of my reads being Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs) directly from the publisher/author. She describes a strained relationship with a producer at Nickelodeon described pseudonymously as "The Creator", who BuzzFeed News and other sources speculate to be Dan Schneider.
