Description

I was a bit slow off the mark in reading Letters from the Lighthouse so there was a lot of discussion online already however I had heard only positive things about it. Initially, I didn't want to read a WW2 book, but having read it, I'm really glad that I did and it has left me in the mood for more Emma Carroll books.

I highly recommend Letters from the lighthouse to anyone who is interested in World war,and a mysterious adventure. In Letters from the Lighthouse, Carroll not only captures the past with an engaging and affecting narrative but shows herself to be a leading historical novelist for children. Without being preachy, the story also encompasses the themes of empathy, tolerance and kindness; such important messages in our current world. I liked the part when the family was reunited together at last after a long journey to the lighthouse. I enjoyed this because it was a sad story at the beginning but then it started to get happier throughout the book.Yet, somehow, she has managed to top her previous works with the stunning Letters From The Lighthouse. My favourite part was when granny joss discovers a planet and then professor smocks(a mean scientist) says he found it.

As they find they have something in common, and both aim to help those in need, the girls’ friendship strengthens. Being an evacuee she has an understanding of the prejudice that can come from lack of understanding. Olive and her brother Cliff are evacuated to the Devon coast after it becomes unsafe for them to remain in London as the air raids are becoming more and more frequent. She has also worked as a news reporter, an avocado picker and the person who punches holes into filofax paper. Finally if reading Letters from the Lighthouse has whetted your appetite for more of Emma’s books you can read my reviews of her previous titles on the Bookbag site. After Suki's disappearance, Olive's mother fears for her children's safety and evacuates them to Devon where they stay in a lighthouse. The reader is treated responsibly; we understand that ‘there is a war on’, that other events and activities take precedence.
