My heart was pulled in two different directions but I hope the rest of the books in this prequel series can make me love them whole. Xara was soo damn cool and yet she was still vulnerable and tender and I was soooo happy when she refused to give into Delton immediately even though she wanted him!

Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. He expresses his love for her and she doesn’t reciprocate it and claims she doesn’t want to be married to him anymore and wants her land back. So all things were okay, even though I was intrigued to see how the thing with the love interest was going to work out because I knew she was going to eventually be taken by Jökull. Beck used the same type of speaking in her previous books, like an old period of time type of talking, and it made me love the books but I don’t know why the combination between that and the third person narration didn’t work at all for me, it made me feel as if I was reading a list of things Sunnëva was doing “she noticed the fireplace, she ran to it but there was no wood. For all of her strength and what she had been through I felt that she very quickly put aside her anger and hurt for him. It was revealed earlier that Delton’s magic destroys/kills while Xara’s heals, which was fine until you told me only women (and all women at that) have healing magic. We soon realize that Xara is the dangerous radical who is trying to take over due to the awful way that Delton treated her after they first got married. This well-crafted romantasy book showcases Beck's talent for storytelling and serves as a testament to her ability to create a compelling fictional realm.

Having now read this book I'd like to go back and read her previous books in the series to get more insight into some of the other characters. With a gasp of pain, she dropped her work and put the injured finger in her mouth to stop the bleeding. It's just seems very manipulative and nasty and I'd hate that for the main girl because she honestly deserves better. There seemed to be a lot crammed into the last 20% of the book and I do wish that it could have been explored more.Delton also went through some tragedies in his youth, although his parents were loving and brought him up well, having to watch them be slaughtered in front of him really scarred in a way none of us can really understand. And the spice was good; tastefully written, avoiding excessive melodrama and seamlessly intertwining with the overarching narrative. It isn’t until threats of someone (Ifer) coming to take over some of the king’s territory and overthrow him essentially do the main characters reunite. It is the first in a 5 book prequel series of standalone romantasy known as the Chronicles of Ur (CoU) set within the same world as Beck’s Guardians of the Maiden (GOTM) series. In general, the banter between the two was just perfect and the tension between them could have been cut with a knife, it hung so thick in the air.
