It was very interesting to learn what different divisions thought the likely outcome and chances were of repelling the invasion.

Annie Kilner's sister Sian accuses Lauryn Goodman of ongoing 'torment and cruelty' towards seven-month. MARK ALMOND: The march to war in the Middle East feels almost unstoppable and Britain will be drawn in. Sir Michael Caine knows a thing or two about gangs: whether that’s joining one as a kid, or playing them in movies for over 50 years. Keir Starmer's VAT raid on private schools could squeeze poor children out of grammars, leading education. Although a few noted that after their tanks were disabled that American troops were needlessly shot and felt that this was (no pun intended) overkill. So how did the Germans view the impending invasion and campaign, did they feel ready, what forces did they have and could they have done better?

His previous books include 'Death on the Don: The Destruction of Germany's Allies on the Eastern Front' and the best-selling 'D-Day Through German Eyes'. I could have done without the cod German accents in the audiobook edition I listened to, however this is a minor gripe. Ne samo sjajnih opisa borbi, iz kojih je jasno da to da li si u ratu preživeo ili ne, određuje tvoj oprez, ali iznad svega sreća.The defenders were in awe of some of the weaponry deployed by the Allies and they speak highly of the absolute power thrown against them. This short but powerful book gives a fresh look at a battle that seems to many of us quite familiar. For example, I have the entire series of war diaries written about the Grossdeutchland Division (in which Sajer served), the 2nd SS Das Reich division, and the 1st SS Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler division, probably some of the most elite of all German units during the entire war. Almost all accounts of D Day are told from the Allied perspective, with the emphasis on how German resistance was overcome on June 6th 1944.

Based on interviews of German soldiers who fought in France on June 6 1944, it's a surprisingly dispassionate series of accounts. As you can appreciate, I was under pressure to present our forces in a certain way, with a lot of embellishment. Whilst very graphic in its accounts of events, it is good to read eye-witness accounts of individual soldiers who were there. What we learn here is that for the ordinary drafted German soldier an entirely different world view existed of what the war was actually about (my goodness the French come out of this very badly indeed apart from the very small percentage who genuinely resisted) . In these diaries, no mention is made of any kind of shooting prisoners out of hand or killing of civilians and destruction of property. A collection of first-hand accounts of the German experience of D-Day based on interviews and notes made in 1954 by Dieter Eckhertz. If I'm not mistaken the books also mentions the importance of loosing access to the oil from North-Africa, which (IIRC) was not discovered until the early 1950s. We are given interviews with five men, one from each of the five beach landings (Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword), which constituted the Normandy invasion.
