Description

The book is well written, holding the attention and providing plenty of intrigue as to where the story would go.

The lifestyles were unfamiliar to this reader and I found them shocking in their wastefulness and couldn't relate to the spoilt messiness of two of the siblings. In An Unwanted Inheritance, Imogen Clark explores the secrets hidden in plain sight as the close-knit Frost siblings put their integrity to the test when forced to confront their father’s legacy. By the close of the story, I knew what I wanted to happen to the money but I could not see how it could come about. SO slow paced and boring, all of the characters are so unlikeable and the way this is written makes a decent plot in theory play out in the most frustrating way. This is an entertaining, warm-hearted and wise novel with Imogen's authorly voice strongly depicting the characteristics and back stories of Max, Ellie, Nathan - and Caroline and James, the spouses of the first two.The way the money was found could be compared with looking under a stone, revealing character traits and personality differences never seen before. For a story about an apparently ordinary suburban family, this is every bit as exhilarating as the recent James Patterson I’ve just finished, but with better characterisation and a twist worthy of a thriller. Another cracker from Imogen Clark, with the gentle teasing apart of the strands of family relationships that we have come to expect.

Caroline is worried that the money might be due to illegal goings on, but Nathan and Ellie's husband, James, want to split up the money immediately. The forced happy ending just left me feeling a little bored… I wanted more I think is all I can say here. Imogen Clark walks us through this difficult time in a family’s life with circumstances we can all relate to. Caroline’s best friend is Max’s sister Ellie, a spoiled princess of a woman on the cusp of her fortieth birthday, living with her husband James and their two equally spoilt children in their mansion where money seems to be no object, and charming always-in-debt youngest sibling Nathan, the outsider.

And like in all of her books, the startling abrupt twists and turns will make you not want to put this one down. Ellie, the middle sibling starts off thinking the same, but her husband Jamie discloses information that makes them want the money more. Max and Ellie are terrific characters, I didn’t feel that there was enough about Nathan to know him well. The matter finally resolves itself in a totally unexpected way, when the source of the cash is revealed.
