Whilst not seriously pretending to present a psychological analysis of family dynamics, I also found the book reaffirming in the traditional family values of reliability and dependability over the perceived attraction of infidelity and illusory excitement. At first I warmed to Mo, finding her narrative light hearted and amusing, a character I could find empathy with. The story is about a family -- Dad, who remains voiceless and nameless until the final scenes, Mom/Mo, a surprisingly uninsightful child psychologist, Dora, her 17-year-old ditzy daughter who sounds a lot more like a 14-year-old, and Peter/Oscar, her 16-year-old son with an Oscar Wilde obsession. Then there is Dad, who is a background, steady character in the beginning, but you realise he loves his family and is actually the sanest of the bunch. Combined with the fulfilment of a recklessly wonderful dream at the end, this left me warmly reaffirmed at the end.

She is taking a huge risk regardless of the consequences that it can cause her family, either driving them apart or pulling them closer together. I am not usually interested in books in the comedy genre, although I do enjoy human interest stories.

Dora has no idea what she is going to do post high school (academics are not her strong suit), she’s just been dumped by her first real boyfriend and she regularly employs a creative if rather rude string of adjectives to describe her mother.

The only good bit was the ending, because A) it was the ending, and B) because of the twist, which after such a boring read, was totally so like unpredictable. I enjoyed the way in which she explores the three main characters; Mo, her eighhteen year old daughter Dorra and sixteen year old son Peter. Although I've left Israel, I hope to continue participating as a member of my beloved Jerusalem-based book club thanks to the blessings of technology. A family of non-dimensional characters spouting about their boring, middle-class lives with nary a sentence that isn't boiling with cliches. There were plenty of laugh out loud moments and I liked the way it was written in diary entry style with each chapter being from a differnent member of the family.A Tiny Bit Marvellous may have improved in the last 100 pages, but I'm afraid that I just couldn't suffer through it to find out which is a shame because I so wanted to like it.
