Description

The Honor 20 Lite is the budget/mid-range smartphone which completes the trio of smartphones in the Honor 20 series.

The higher the pixel density, the more detailed and clearer is the information displayed on the screen. The dewdrop notch takes up minimal space and the lack of a chin means you do get an, almost, all-screen design. It doesn’t mean you can’t run the latest games: just that they’ll be a bit jerkier than on the most powerful phones or simply run at reduced detail levels. The 20 Lite gives you three rear cameras (even if one of ’em is really only on depth duties), a standout design and plenty of storage – so why did Honor hobble it with microUSB?Only those spoiled by using a super speedy flagship phone are likely to notice the little app loading and switching delays. Portraits are good with excellent levels of detail and lovely bokeh but clipping can be an issue, especially with selfies, where parts of the image are thrown out of focus that you don't want to be. Technology has been a big part of my life for years, whether it be ripping the family computer apart to see how it worked, playing with the new phones that Dad brought home from work. On the other hand, smaller pixels allow for increasing the resolution while preserving the same sensor size.

It allows direct access to a numeric dial pad as well as contacts and saved favorites in two additional tabs.

inch display, thin bezels and a small dewdrop notch, which is home to the front-facing camera, taking up minimal space. You can give the display a bit of extra pop by switching from the “Normal” colour mode to “Vivid”; this boosts the peak brightness to 387cd/m², but at the expense of colour accuracy. You can change the Launcher (I use Action Launcher), you can use a different messenger app, browser, calendar and Camera, heck you can even use an entirely different virtual assistant, so you limit your exposure to EMUI, and that’s fine too, that’s Android, you making it what you want, even if it doesn’t come that way from the factory. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

If you sit the Honor 20 Lite next to a smartphone with an OLED screen, of course, you'll find differences but in reality, you're not going to do this and as the picture is sharp and colours are accurate, there's nothing negative to say about it. Since Honor does not include the faster Wi-Fi standard ac or 2x2 MIMO antenna technology, the attained speeds in our test are low. Apps load pretty quickly, swapping between multiple apps doesn’t force then to reload, and the Android home screen looks free from stuttering or slowdown. It can be customised in the style of iOS with all apps on the homescreen or in the style of Android with apps in a drawer. Larger ones are capable of recording more light, hence, will offer better low light shooting and wider dynamic range compared to the smaller pixels. The downward-facing speaker is also a little too easy to cover with your finger in landscape view, but we’re mainly disappointed with that crusty old USB standard. We use ColorChecker passport to determine how well the camera of the Honor 20 Lite is able to capture colors. When he's not on the road attending launch events, you can usually find him scouring the web for the latest news, to feed Stuff readers' insatiable appetite for tech. If you can’t afford a proper flagship, but want similar styling punch and a few of the same features, Honor usually has something for you. We compared the GPS of the Honor 20 Lite to our reference device Garmin Edge 520 on our mandatory bike ride.
