I’d forgotten, perhaps, that his solo career has lasted twice the length of his original Blur tenure, and Coxon gives equitable space to all his releases. Raised in Derbyshire and not rich, Coxon was particularly vexed when Blur were cast as posh southern kids to the more hardscrabble Oasis.

Rather than it being a one-off incident that happened at a specific point in time, the book tells you how this had been a long time coming as a result of feeling creatively undervalued and suffering from an extreme lack of self confidence. So it’s equally cringeworthy (the comment above about Uriah Heap is so true) but also very revealing in that he devotes more space to his pedal set up to telling us anything about his children.
