The irony of it all strikes me then: working so hard to earn their love and pride, and it’s brought me no closer to them. It's not what you think, I DO love Wyn, I think he is sweet and charming and vulnerable, and he absolutely loves Harriett, but the man could not muster up the strength to fight for her even ONCE this entire book! It feels like a moment before a car accident, when the tires have started to hydroplane and you know something terrible is likely coming, but there's still a chance the tread will find purchase and you'll never know what agony you narrowly avoided.

What follows is a tension-filled week where Harriet and Wyn present a "nothing is wrong" front to their friends so as not to ruin the week, while remembering all of the things they love about each other and beginning to drift back together. They have to act like they're still together and pretend happiness and such just to not causing chaos. Don’t get me wrong, some parts are really sweet and I did like all the characters and whilst I love a good romance, I mean who doesn’t, this was just a bit too sickly for me. we also become immersed in wyn and harriet’s past relationship and we are taken back to how they first met and fell in love.Trust Emily Henry to take the fake dating trope to another level with the messy complex history these two share and the spiralling lies. Harriet and Wyn are the perfect couple and go on holiday every year with their favourite people in the world. Love love love the book, how it seamlessly moves between real place and happy place, past and present merged into one yet distinct to make a beautiful picture. The cottage is for sale so this is the last time they'll all be together here and they can't bear to break their friends' hearts. weirdly, i still don’t believe that he and harriet fully understand the reason that they broke up or they didn’t work out.

I understand when he was struggling before but by the end he is supposed to be in a better place and it's still the same with him. Good thing she got scholarships I guess because throwing away your successful brain surgery career is wild behavior. i was falling asleep because i felt like i’ve already read this 100000000 times in harry’s internal monologue. Sabrina, Cleo and Harriet used to be inseparable but the miles between them and adult responsibilities mean that the 'happy place' of the annual trip to the cottage is incredibly valuable to the group. The friendships, the heartbreak, and how Emily Henry perfectly encapsulates that bitter-sweet feeling of growing up made my heart hurt.Fizzing with romance, wit and characters to fall head over heels for, Happy Place is a gloriously feelgood novel of fake relationships and awkward holidays from the bestselling author of Book Lovers and Beach Read. Like, are you going to tell me that after a long-ass relationship of 8 YEARS, neither of you can communicate things? As for the writing, Henry uses so many adjectives and metaphors that I can’t help but feel claustrophobic. Sabrina's father owns a lake house in Knott's Harbor, and the trio has been spending the week of Lobster Fest there ever since graduation.
