Cascadia is a beautiful strategy board game in which players compete to create the most harmonious ecosystem. Drafting tiles and creating a landscape filled with wildlife which score points in a variety of ways is right up my street and since the game arrived a week ago we’ve played it twice a day since. Cascadia is a puzzly tile-laying and token-drafting game featuring the habitats and wildlife of the Pacific Northwest adorned with artwork by Beth Sobel.

Rule Restrictions (again designed for (multiplayer but I solo these too) – these can be tricky but fortunately you only play one restriction per game! The game ends when the Habitat Tile stack runs out (which is, rather satisfyingly, exactly 20 turns per player), and then it is on to scoring.First shuffle the hex Habitat Tiles and stack them up face down – the number of tiles in the game depends on player count (43/63/83 for a 1-2/3/4 player game).

Ideally you can place habitat tiles to create matching terrain that reduces fragmentation and creates wildlife corridors, mostly because you score for the largest area of each type of habitat at game's end, with a bonus if your group is larger than each other player's.

Unlike games like Carcassonne and Isle of Skye, adjacent terrains don’t have to match, but you’ll get more points and bonuses at end game if you are able to create large “corridors” of a single terrain type.And if the regular game is just not enough Cascadia for you, there is the epic Achievements section at the back of the rulebook for even more chillaxed crunchiness! In addition to the Landmarks module, this expansion includes more unique wildlife scoring cards and habitat tiles to add variety and enough components to play Cascadia with 5-6 players. It’s relatively quick to play, offers a nice puzzle to solve and still gives you plenty of decisions to make.
