I'm going to dig into the fan control script and see if there's a way to add hard drive temperature monitoring in there - the USB-SATA bridge passes SMART through with '-d sat' in smartctl, so it should be doable. I wasn't so thrilled that the multiple Synology devices that I purchased stopped becoming eligible for firmware updates, effectively leaving me with devices that became less and less useful over time. A fan provides cooling for the entire unit, and the top-mounted power switch is a small OLED screen that can be customised to display anything, such as IP address or CPU temperature. When setup in the Argon-EON, that single board computer has 4 SSD’s attached, and can boot from an 5th device.

port to connect to all 4 drives and the transfer speed will be limited to what the CPU can handle too. But with space for up to four SSDs, USB booting, excellent cooling and support for the Raspberry Pi 4 we have an excellent, if expensive case. Argon has also baked versatility into the design with a built-IR port that works with the firm’s remote control (reviewed last month), perfect for a home theatre setup. In my review of the enclosure, I discovered an internal USB port – which seems perfect for the next upgrade: boot from USB. I read a lot today in the How To's and the FAQ for the Nextcloud installation and i also tried the first installation but i failed.I used to be a big fan of Synology, until I learned what kind of clothes the emperor was (not) wearing. To get inside the Argon EON, we need to remove the two acrylic panels and then using the included screwdriver (something we have since coveted more so than our more expensive drivers) remove the back panel. The positioning of the power switch makes it very easy to hit it when handling the device, which can punish the impatient when moving things around. All the other files, with the exception of the rtc configuration file have been moved into /etc/argoneon. Turns out that setting "0" for "Turn OFF OLED Screen when unchanged after X secs," which says "0 for MANUAL".

I’m just trying to install the scripts, however installation process hangs, apparently while starting argononed.

Since Raspberry Pi 4 comes with a 1Gbps Ethernet, I decided to take advantage of it and create a reporting system in NodeRED that will monitor and report when the ISP is not keeping the contractual agreements. The install process worked with no issues but running the Python test script caused the Argon EON to lock up.
