Description

Continuing in the tradition of the 'blue bible', this book is so excellent simply because it is so comprehensive.

By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. The new chapters on culture and identity and on the mass media take full account of the 'cultural turn' in the subject. Raise standards and engagement in the subject with an easy-to-follow format that makes understanding sociology easier for all your students. While this gives a basic covering of the key debates, given that Global Development is one of the topics at A Level, it's a shame that it doesn't get the in depth analysis that the others receive. Sociology: Themes and Perspectives has been the best-selling textbook for sociology students for more than 20 years, selling more than a million copies worldwide. The only reason I gave this a 3 is because the packaging was very flimsy and the book came with a torn cover. Finally, there are some topics which I feel could have been included that were absent, cities/urban studies and organisational sociology. Sociology Themes and Perspectives is the number one bestselling introduction to sociology for A-level and undergraduate students. As someone who regrets not taking Sociology at sixth form, and instead spent his gap year doing it, I thoroughly recommend it. This book is a must have if you missed A level sociology and have modules covering sociology in your undergraduate study.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. This item: Sociology Themes and Perspectives: Selling over a million copies world-wide over 30 years, this eighth edition has been fully updated to give all the detail and depth needed. It is well worth the money and unlike other works of this kind I find it an interesting read, and not at all 'dry'. Now in full colour and with photos this edition will bring sociology alive, enabling you to access and achieve success in the subject”.

This new eighth edition is brought to you by a trusted team of subject experts, active in the field, and experienced sociology authors. It is more useful to define sociology in terms of its approach or approaches to explaining social life rather than its subject matter.Because the subjects it examines are so numerous and so varied, sociology cannot be defined simply in terms of the subjects it studies. I am a student social worker and I am finding this book very helpful as it is clearly written, up-to-date and explains theories and concepts in straightforward language. Secondly, I assumed from the description that globalisation would get a chapter to itself (as is the case in Giddens' Sociology and Bilton et al's Introductory Sociology), however it was tacked onto the final chapter.

Stephen Moore is a well-known textbook author and has contributed to previous editions of Sociology Themes and Perspectives.Martin Holborn is an experienced teacher and examiner of A Level, Access and degree-level Sociology, and the author of numerous social science books including co-authoring the last six editions of Sociology: Themes and Perspectives, which has been a bestseller internationally for many years. Level: A-level, undergraduate Subject: Sociology Themes and Perspectives is your essential A-level and undergraduate sociology guide. Brought to you by a team of experts, Collins Sociology Themes and Perspectives is written by Michael Haralambos and Martin Holborn and has supported over one million sociology students worldwide.
