When the pair arrive at The Cloisters it's clear this family is hiding more than just the good china, as Claire realizes someone has recently met an untimely end at the house. Nevertheless, this is a murder mystery where the protagonists have to work for the clues, they don't fall out of the sky, and the characters get some things wrong and blunder several interviews with suspects. Claire meets loads of dead people, and if I'm remembering right all of them just died because that's what people do. This is an absolute classic where its not just about the who-dunnit but the where and how at the same time and with a wide range of colorful and at times hilarious suspects to choose from and a long list of ghostly.

As Claire desperately tries to keep The turns of phrase are very clever (not surprised that Ben Aaronovitch has endorsed it), and I can't deny that it kept me reading, wanting to know what happened next.What follows is somewhat irregular detective work involving stealing a priest's cassock, getting too drunk to remember to question your suspect, and of course, Chekhov's sparkly purple dildo.
